Mobile Internet, Edge+gprs Is Much More Faster Than Cdma

Recommended Posts

@sachinrocks

Yes my dear friend you are 100% correct. Idea can offer you some cheaper plans. But at the same time you have to confirm this also that if the GPRS speed is alike as of Airtel. I have heard that the Airtel is providing better speeds.

Apart from them if your usage is not high and speed doesn't matters you than you must go for Idea itself. Final decision maker is you only.

Regards.

Rs 15/day = 450pm. well if u r getting unlimited internet for rs 450 pm then i think it is not that expensive. No service provider is giving unlimited internet below rs 700 pm.

The only issue is speed. & if airtel is giving acceptable speed then i think its worth it.

well i think u r lucky that u r getting good speed & reliable service from a local cable internet provider. normally these local cable operators offers great attractive plans but they provide very poor unreliable servicce.

Its clearly mentioned in the spec as 4+1 timeslots for trasnmission. meanz. 4 timeslots used fot Rx (recieve/download) and 1 slot for Tx (transmit/upload). Roughly calculating 4+1 will give 192 kilobits (24kbye) per sec download and 48 Kilobits (6Kilobyte) per sec upload. But again it all depends on ISP Locality, signal strength, ISP plans, and many other things involved.

Thanks for the reply my dear C. Mahendra.

In Mumbai Vodafone people says their advanced GPRS system can provide upto 84 kbps maximum speed. This seems to be nothing as compared with Airtel. Whats your say my dear friends ?

hello honest

I am not vodafone user, at the moment. but after your post here I EXTENSIVELY checked for the technical information on vodafone website http://www.vodafone.in but sadly did not find any any any information on gprs. not even settings. Looks like the Vodafone people are not yet out of thier "HANGOVER" of launch party.

If you are informed Advanced GPRS, then its 100% only plain GPRS. Whatever advanced they call it, its not an EDGE or 3G or not even WCDMA. This plain GPRS will give maximum give 96kbits/sec if two slots are used for one-way at any moment. (2 slots x 48 kbps). But I think they must be giving EDGE under some commercial plan, which I am not sure about as it was a year past information I tried to get from thier tech-guys at Hutch Gallery.

Dig a little more with the Tech-guys in Vodafone Gallery. They will sure give you more details on EDGE or 3G and will inform you under which business user (commercial) plan (mostly on PCMCIA or USB Datacards) it is available. Also I guess the high-speed net plans are not yet finalised by VODAFONE as the website www.hutch.in is expired and www.vodafone.in is very new site with no details on almost anything. Looks like they are more busy in selling Rs.1199 and Rs.1599 phones for people below poverty line :lol: and business users are neglected. I will not be surprised if these new companies will start selling these cheap phones on THELAAS and HAATHGAADIS ;)

This forum is funny, I saw many RELIANCE and AIRTEL users are sharing, comparing and debating on too much of information here, but no one from HUTCH/VODAFONE are active. I am sure there are many people here with this connection too. Anyways. Looks like VODAFONE users are similar busy as the company itself. bye.

@C Mahendra

My dear friend, when I called CC of Vodafone they told me that they provide EDGE only on their EDGE DATA CARD which costs nearly Rs.5000/-. And in advance GPRS in which we can surf the net from our PC their system can provide only a maximum speed upto 84 kbps.

They doesn't have good speeds in GPRS nor they have good plans like Airtel (unlimited usage plans). They have only 3 plans for advance usage :

1. Plan 199 : Pay as per usage 5 paise per 10 Kb.

2. Plan 499 : 500 MB free usage. And 5 paise per 10 Kb further.

3. Plan 699 : 1 GB free usage. And 5 paise per 10 Kb further.

Silly Vodafone doesn't have unlimited plans at all. I think VODAFONE superiors are sleeping yet. They will only wake-up when their all subscribers shift to AIRTEL.

VODAFONE (Hutch) costs as per Honest's information collected from Vodafone Gallery and as info shown by honest on this page>> http://www.vodafone.in/vbs/pages/mobileconnect.aspx

TATA'S current PLUG2SURF (P2S) charges as per this page

http://www.tataindicom.com/t-personal-inte...urf-tariff.aspx

TATA'S current Internet through Mobile (ITM) charges as per this page

http://www.tataindicom.com/t-personal-inte...le-tariffs.aspx

RELIANCE current Netconnect charges as per this page

http://www.rcom.co.in/Communications/Netco...fs_details.html

GPRS1/2/3/4 are gprs plans by MTNL as per current rates on this page

http://dolphin.mumbai.mtnl.net.in/cominfo/gprs.html

Airtel costs are found on this page

http://www.airtelworld.com/Level2_t3_servi...?path=1/6/6/3/6

MTNL is too costly in this range, Airtel is second. CDMA is very cheap but the speed is also too slow. So decide how you want it.

Hope this info helps at least one person in the world to make choices.

@honest

Didnt I tell you they have EDGE under some special plan. As per new info from you its clear that EDGE is only available for Data Cards. These people sell a specific locked data-cards with customized settings so only those units can establish connection with EDGE capabilities. I hate these kinda companies who give services in CLOSED environment. Reliance is also one of them. Looks like in india CDMA is owned by only reliance as TATA is not yet as wide-spread as Reliance. What I like about reliance is its "PRESENCE IN REMOTE VILLAGES" (at least in remote village where my native place is and I can access NetConnect in that remote village too.

I CAN DESCRIBE MTNL / BSNL / RELIANCE / TATA / IDEA .... in single line......

LE LO LE LO! RASTE KAA MAAL SASTE ME :confuse: lolz

They all can compete with each other for MisManagement of services, Dis-organisation, Non-interaction between departments, Ignorance at Gallery. Dont beleive? Go visit any two different galleries of same companies and ask for GPRS details or ask details about latest phone you see on their website. You will find them equal in all above aspects :confuse: and yes, I still regularly see people sitting in Reliance HeadOffice fighting over False billing of Postpaid connections, as I stay in next building of Reliance Head Office in Mumbai. ha ha ha.

I dont see any point asking so many questions asking in a thread for which answers are in the same thread. this thread itself have all the information about EDGE and many links to EDGE Definition pages.

Will you please care to read the thread before asking questions? Please dont ask for spoonfeeding. You are forgiven for first and last time guessing you are a new member.

in simple, EDGE enabled handsets can transfer data more faster

its an addon or an update to gprs, so that only in GSM

If you can understand technical words, please read the forum

hey spknair

how did I overestimated myself. just asked him to read the same thread from beginning for all his questions. looks like you are overestimating yourself. Instead of going berzerk on me you could have guided the new people. You could have explained him about what is edge and 3g instead of asking him "are you a newbie in the world of mobile?" Now I call it superiority complex. Dont act oversmart with me. ok? Do your own thing and dont poke your dirty nose in others issues. your useless comment was completely not necessary among this technical discussion. better take care next time.
