coolrajiv 1 Report post Posted September 25, 2007 Source - Times of India epaper Tata Tele at 1m peak in city TIMES NEWS NETWORK Kolkata: Tata Teleservices Ltd on Monday claimed it has crossed the 1-million-subscriber mark in Kolkata circle and said it aims to add another 4 lakh users in Kolkata telecom circle by March 2008. “We will invest nearly Rs 100 crore between now and March 2008 in developing physical infrastructure,” Tata Teleservices chief operating officer (Kolkata circle) Abhijit Pal said. “The fresh infusion will raise the company’s total investment in Kolkata circle to Rs 593 crore since January 27, 2005, when we started operations here,” he pointed out. Pal said Tata Tele — which currently has 1.48 million subscribers in West Bengal, including the Kolkata telecom circle — hopes to increase the customer base to 2.4 million by March 2008. Total subscribers in the eastern region would be over 4.1 million by March 2008, the COO said. Currently, about 2.5 million people use Tata Tele connection, the company claimed. By March 2008, Pal said, cumulative investment in the whole eastern region would gone up to Rs 1,702 crore. It has already invested Rs 1,396 crore in the eastern region till August. Pal said bulk of the money will be spent in setting up towers and switches. The company plans to build 152 new towers in the Kolkata telecom circle between now and March 2008. The number of towers in the circle will go up to 493 from the present level of 341. Total numbers towers in the eastern region will be 2,069 by March 2008, Pal said.
