Just got this email. Starting this thread for discussion on this topic

It’s really a time to proud about our cricket team. Here are some of the

awards announced to the team.

Ø Rs 2 crores as a tournament prize

Ø Rs 8 crores from BCCI fo1r winning the final.

Ø Rs 4 crores from BCCI for reaching the final.

Ø Rs 1 crore for Yuvraj singh from BCCI

Ø Cash awards upto Rs 21 lakhs from all the governments of

state to which the players are belonging.

Ø Rs 3 lakhs to Uthappa from Kerala government just for the

reason that his mother is from Kerala.

Ø Flats worth of Rs 25 lakhs from Sahara.

Ø A new award, 'Jharkhand Ratna' honour is being introduced for

the first time and will be presented to Dhoni for making the state

proud, on the 7th foundation day celebration of the state on November

15 at Ranchi.

Ø Special News Bulletin, Editions and Highlights in almost all

the TV news channels through out the night.

Ø Special News Editions, Cover stories and Posters in almost

all the News Papers for the next two days.

Ø Heroes' welcome in Mumbai

Ø Welcome by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh,

Deputy CM R R Patil and their Cabinet colleagues

Ø 30 km long victory procession that lasted over five hours.

We also very much happy about all these and congratulate each and every one

who is the reason for this famous victory.

But…………………. What is the status of our National Game, Hockey?

We won the Asia cup couple of weeks before.

Specific Features of this victory

Ø We did not lose a single match.

Ø We defeated the strongest team South Korea twice in the

tournament – League and Final.

Ø We defeated South Korea In the final by 7-2 which is one of

the huge margins in finals.

Ø We scored totally 56 goals and given away just 5 goals in the

7 matches that we played.

Ø We scored 20 goals in a single match against Sri Lanka and

not even given away a single goal. This equaled the highest margin of

victory in Asia cup record.

Ø We remained the lone team to maintain our slate clean (Rare

all-win record at pool stage) among 11 teams and topped the tough

six-team Pool B.

Rewards for this victory

Ø Individual greeting message by Our Honorable President.

Ø For the news channels and papers, it’s just news.

Ø IHF had announced an incentive for the team where they would

receive Rs 1000 for every goal scored and lose Rs 2000 for every goal

conceded.

Ø The state governments not even sent a congratulation note.

Ø Similar fate for Indian Football team which won Nehru Cup defeating a

much higher ranked Syria in final.

Is it the way of respecting our national game? Forget National Game, Indians

and media have probably made it impossible for other sportspersons from

various fields to survive here. Hope changes take place…………

I guess the reason why Cricket is more popular than Hockey is because Cricket has stars or demi Gods like Sachin Tendulkar, etc. Even though he did not feature in the Twenty20 World Cup, cricket is more popular thanks to stars like him which Hockey lacks. The plight of Hockey hasn't been good in the past couple of decades as India kept loosing all matches and at the same time Indian cricket team won the World Cup and many tournaments after that. Gradually Hockey lost interest, which was Cricket's gain. Also I think Cricket allows more advertisement for the broadcasters, hence more promotoion for cricket.

They should be given some Respectable Rewards. Rs. 1000 for a Goal to team. (Majak kyo karme ho, Wo kya Bhikhari hai)

Rs. 1000 have any Value. Just Imagine if we go out for lunch with Girl Friend and We only have Rs. 1000 in Wallet Ho Insecure you may feel. and they give it for whole Team. mean Rs. 50 for goal to every Player. Hamare yaha Hamal bhi Bori pe Usse Jyada kamata hai.

Its all about marketing and money, because few countires play cricket, BCCI and marketing guys knows that leading in cricket is easiest thing in the world. Indian sports can not be number one in world where 150 countries play, so they brain washed people to belive that 10 countires or 15 countries game is called world cup. Rubbish.

Being no 1 in asia is bigger credit than world cup of cricket, ask one cricketer to run 45 minutes and most cricketer will leave cricket in favour of advertisement.

You create your own worth by your work you perform

and performance once in a blue moon is not going to help you. Nead to be more cinsistant.

Its high time that the National Game be changed to Cricket since its so sad to see the state of the so called "National Game" even after winning..............

Cricket has a lot of sponsers and these sponsers that is the reason our cricketers are being rewarded and coming to government no one cares to ask we so much of money is being donated when there is shortage of funds for public works
