ashoksoft 83 Report post Posted October 7, 2007 Hi pals, Had visited a friend of mine today ... and tested a few handsets that reliance is rebranding and planning to launch in the coming weeks... The handsets are dual SIM supporting GSM and CDMA simultaneously ... and priced from 8500 / - to 14000/- Tested all the handsets in offer ... and found them real cool - considering you are getting the one year warranty too ... the handsets that have reached the distributors today are not exactly the ones that is launched - these handsets are still unbranded - but happened to see the address from where the handsets are shipped and that sure is reliance address The one for 8500 has a 2 MP cam - but the battery life s**ks ... but it seems the same handset can be got from china for about 4k on the other hand the 14k one has a 3" screen, 1800 mah battery, supports group messaging (and u can choose GSM or CDMA for messaging as defualt - extremely useful for DAPO customer ...Calls can be interswitched between GSM or CDMA - as both are connected simultaneously.. GPRS using Airtel Mobile Office worked perfect .. and the wap browsing experience is real nice (read big screen) - the handset supports the Ez input mode - akin to T9 but more common in SE Asian countries. The cam is a 3.2Mp and the loudspeaker is LOUD !!! could hear the music in the traffic on the loudspeaker.. Bluetooth 2.0 supporting A2DP profiling as well as Vcard / Message forwarding ... but found that transferring files more than 8 MB quite a task ... was too slow at handling larger files. Supports Java, PC Sync and comes with a USB charger as well ... a first for a start... you also get a car kit for 150/- more - which sure is cheaper than most of the car kits available... batteries extra are for 200 /- and the normal charger has a slot in which u can charge the spare battery. The handset I tested still had some menu's in Korean / Chineese ... but the handsets reaching tommorrow will not have them ... guess I'll be getting one of them for testing again - as I'll be sending the feedback to the company and well to the extent I see it ... good start btw ... let me see when I can post a few pix online might need to take permission before doing it ... hehe cheers karki

kshah 452 Report post Posted October 8, 2007 well i also need dual mode handsets eagerly, just because sadikk brand has no warranty am afraid!, but will surely have a look onto theese and am expecting them not to be classics nemore! Remember GTRAN fiasco? Warranty means you are protected just for 1 year. Not more than that. I too literally thrown away GTRAN handset after 14 months. There was no one to hear. Hope reliance brings good handset. It does not matter wether chinese or korean or taiwanese. It is product they choose and price they pay.

ashoksoft 83 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 Guess I'll post the pix today ... the handset model though is not printed anywhere on the sample piece I got .. I managed to figure out that it is a Daxian X768 . Have got the handset with me .. and though the claims state it is a korean handset - the make - model and feel suggest a chineese presence. saketsamir 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 RCL can do anything, they can make a pact with german, chines or korean. Ultimately it must not be heavily priced handset with unrealistic features and after sales service.

ashoksoft 83 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 Will upload pix today ... the phone is exactly the one posted above ... have been using it for the last couple of days ... Really well made phones with quite a number of pros and a few cons.. The handset I got is unbranded - in the meaning that it is a prototype - hence nowhere is the brand name specified I found out that it was a Daxian after opening the body and looking at a green sticker on the PCB Pros : * The phone battery ROCKS !!! a full day on the last band of battery .... never heard / seen it before. * The screen size is large and quite ideal for viewing videos * Sound Quality rocks. * The phone charger comes with the ability to charge an extra battery - and has a USB output slot ... ideally ensuring that you can use the charger as a charger for all USB devices * Phone software really sturdy .. not a single crash from the time I got it. * GSM and CDMA connected simultaneously .. and call switching is possible. * A2DP profiling and bluetooth sync modes - including contact sync is possible.. - ONE BY ONE - thro vcard send. * Default input modes can be configured as per requirements and so can start and shutdown screens ans sounds. * extensive and well made contact book and Call registers with unparalled features ... will have a few screenshots .. * The phone has a dedicated Bluetooth key !!!! * The touch screen and handwriting recognition sure is good .. CONS : * The headphones provided with the phone s**ks. * The charger slot and the headphone slot are the same - and it is non standard so if a charger / headphone goes kaboom ... you better start looking for another one. * No Keypad backlight - highly disadvantageous if you are not aware where each key is ... well I've passed this stage. * No flash for camera - and camera sadly disappointing for a 3MP claimed ... the pix appear more like a interpolated VGA cam ... but from the alogrithm used for image compression - I think this can be rectified by a firmware upgrade - as the sensor is good ... its just the way the info is getting stored. * Support for external applications claimed - but I could not honestly get to install apps yet .. trying to figure out a way. * USB cable provided - but no drivers ... I've got some drivers as well as a PC Sync tool ... but the tool connects only via Serial port ... so Sync not yet sucessful .. though I've gotten over that thro Bluetooth syncing. * voice quality over CDMA seems a little weak - maybe only on my phone - coz the second prototype my friend has does not seem to have this concern. * CDMA network takes longer to turn on and turn off . * SMS gets stored in the SIM Cards only - the phone memory where 200 sms can wait ... somehow does not seem interested in taking a few sms's. more will be added shortly ! Saurav 22 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 "CDMA network takes longer to turn on and turn off ." Is it Possible to receive call on CDMA with Call on GSM on Hold. In Short is it like Samsung Dual one Technology 1 time or like Spice both Tech all time.

These are ery common problems with most chinese phones, including dexian, youlong (both are very reputed and big manufacturers in china). These guys makes good handsetss too. but software is always an issue.
