Ramchi 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 I use P1i which has Wifi and has SIP. I installed Fring (freeware) which connects to your MSN, Skype, Google Talk. I used to connect thri wifi for Voip Voice chatting. If you have 256 Kbps connection at home, you can easily have conversation with overseas friends & family members without having to pay anything additional thru your mobile phone. If you have Bluetooth headset you can talk without holding the phone!!! You dont need a computer but you need a Wireless Router and Broadband connection. It directly connects to MSN, Google & Skype contacts. Since P1i has QWERTY keyboard, I can also chat. You even get Incoming Call Dial Tone using this Fring software. This can be downloaded from the net for free. Also, you can use this to talk to domestic/overseas telephone but this is a paid service at very cheap rates. Dont go for wierd WiFi phones. Go for either Nokia or Sony Ericsson. Never try Blackberries!!!
keanu_reeves 1 Report post Posted November 3, 2007 thanks Ramchi for your response. I have a wireless router with broadband. P1i is a GSM Model and I need some more options in both GSM and CDMA as in Nasik CDMA is far more better in connectivity than GSM. if you can help me with some CDMA models also. i found this list on a website i do not remember the name and found these mobiles which are working with skype. if users can give there feed back as to who have successfully used skype on these handsets. for talking and not chating AT&T (Cingular) 8125 AT&T (Cingular) 8525 BlackBerry 7100 BlackBerry 7200 BlackBerry 7500 BlackBerry 7700 BlackBerry 8100 (Pearl) BlackBerry 8300 (Curve) BlackBerry 8700 BlackBerry 8800 Hewlett-Packard iPAQ hw 6910 Hewlett-Packard iPAQ hw 6915 Hewlett-Packard iPAQ hw 6920 Hewlett-Packard iPAQ hw 6925 Hewlett-Packard iPAQ hw 6940 Hewlett-Packard iPAQ hw 6945 Hewlett-Packard iPAQ hw 6960 Hewlett-Packard iPAQ hw 6965 i-mate k-jam i-mate JASJAM Motorola RAZR V3 Motorola Q Motorola Q8 Nokia 3200 Nokia 5500 Nokia 5700 Nokia 6600 Nokia 6680 - Skype Certified Nokia 6682 - Skype Certified Nokia N73 Nokia N75 Nokia N76 Nokia N80 Nokia N81 Nokia N95 Nokia E61 Nokia E61i Nokia E62 Nokia E90 Palm Treo 650 Palm Treo 680 Palm Treo 700p Palm Treo 700w Palm Treo 700wx Palm Treo 750 Samsung Blackjack SGH-i607 Sony Ericsson P1i Sony Ericsson P990i Sony Ericsson M600i Sony Ericsson W950i Sprint PPC-6700 Sprint PPC-6800 T-Mobile Dash T-Mobile Touch T-Mobile Wing Other Windows Mobile Pocket PC Devices Other Windows Mobile Smartphone Devices thanks in advance
Ramchi 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2007 Whichever Mobile phone you choose, ensure that Fring or SIP works without any problems. You go for mobile phone with more memory (like P1i which has 128 MB or RAM) and OS which is stable (Symbian OS - UIQ 3.0), if you are particular about VoIP voice chating. I do have Nokia E61 which has WiFi and also has similar capabilities; this phone works fine but lots of hanging. You may go for E61i which has Camera capabilities as well. I feel E61i will be a better option in terms of value for money. But stability may be an issue with this phone (Not sure about E61i, though). BB generally can be avoided for lack of support and highly priced handsets. HTC, I-Mate, HP, Palm - No proper support available in India. You may need to spend lots of time and effort, may be lots of money for accessories as well. Motorola, Samsung - I have not owned any Wifi from these brands. ani_meher 42 Report post Posted November 5, 2007 Dear All,Is it possible to install fring on any S60 CDMA mobile and connect to net and talk using fring/skype service to make calls from mobile itself? There is no s60 cdma handset.
keanu_reeves 1 Report post Posted November 7, 2007 Thanks all for your help. Bought a new P1i and installed Fring on it. But the voice cuts in between in the test calls. can any one please help
Ramchi 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2007 It depends on the bandwidth in whic you use your voice chat and the type of equipment being used on the otherend etc...If the receiving end is using Speaker and has lots of noise parameters, then you may experience voice cuts. But if you use Bluetooth headset and the receiving party is also using headset, you can avoid unnecessary voice distortions and background noise. This VOIP over Skype or MSN may not be perfect but it serves the purpose. Dont use Skype or MSN standard Voice Chat for your business needs. For this go for paid services offered by Fring or Skype which should provide you a better solution where you can directly call overseas telephone numbers. BULLHORN 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2008 (edited) Skype over SPRINT 3g? hi, i'm interested in skyping over the SPRINT 3g data plan specifically, not just wi-fi. has anyone actually achieved this solution in practice? i got a great price with the SPRINT SERO plan, so that's an incentive to keep sprint. i'm interested in SKYPE over the data plan from SPRINT on the SPRINT HTC TOUCH (MP 6900) / SPRINT HTC MOGUL (PPC 6800), or if these cannot, any sprint phone. if not directly thru skype mobile, then thru one of the 3rd part clients, iskoot, fring, nimbuzz, shape, cellity or any others perhaps? what would you recommend? i'd be interested in ATT as well if workable. again, not wi-fi, but the actual ATT 3g network. STEVE JOBS said during the apple IPHONE introduction presentation that voip would be "limited" or restricted over the ATT 3g network. has that been found to hold true? best regards and thanx, tonyscarbone@hotmail.com 954.495.9933 Edited July 17, 2008 by BULLHORN
