Tata Starting Upgrading Network For 3g

Recommended Posts

BANGALORE: Huawei India has successfully completed phase-1 of Tata Teleservices’ CDMA project in India.

In this phase, Huawei replaced Tata’s existing CDMA network in the Delhi region and established a network in what happens to be a high traffic area in terms of telecom usage and growth.

According to an official release, Huawei’s new network fully satisfies the growing demands of Delhi’s telecom users and enables Tata to provide 3G services quickly and seamlessly.

Huawei’s mandate comes close on the heels of Tata’s decision, late last year, to overhaul its existing network and transform it into 3G ready to satisfy the growing demands of the India’s telecom users.

Huawei upgraded Tata’s existing network with its soft switch core network and IP based Parc BSC (base station controller) and installed a number of BTS (Base Stations) in Delhi, Kolkata and other major cities.

The entire 1st phase contract amounted to approximately $ 50 million and as per the mandate from the Tatas, was completed by Huawei before end October 2007. Work of the core network transition was completed to enable easy and successful migration of 200 million users. The Huawei release states that Tata Teleservices’ business goal is to achieve 100 million telecom subscribers by 2011.

Earlier, in September, Huawei replaced Tata’s 500 existing base stations with its new Generation BTS. As per the release, Huawei’s IP-based Parc BSC is so intense that each PARC equals the power of Tata’s 10 existing BSC.

^^^

What is RCOMs position? Are they still sleeping on this issue? or are they also readying their networks for 3G? or do they not want EVDO at all? Do they want to go in only for 3G in GSM, (if and when they actually get it)?
