"prl" Directory

Hi guys

In LG-RD2030 file system, there is a directory "prl"

i want to know what is the use of this directory?

recently i mentioned that accidentaly i deleted this directory in my mobile,

then my mobile denied to start.

then LG service centre guy replaced the PCB card of my mobile and the mobile is working fine now.

so tell me what "prl" directory stands for?

one more thing, before this problem (before i deleted "prl" directory) whenever i see s/w version of my mobile by pressing <Menu>+4+7, i see:

S/W: RD203F15

PRL: 1

but now (after replacing PCB card), it shows:

S/W: RD203F15

PRL: 2

why?

PRL 2 Means

Short answer: It stands for "Preferred Roaming List", and it is used by the phone to locate different cell systems.

It might be showing the PRL file version loaded in your phone..

The PRL is ->

Preferred Roaming List. A list of SID's kept inside a phone to permit roaming on other wireless networks. A service provider may set up roaming agreements with other service providers in different geographic regions and the PRL will try to locate one of these service providers' networks first when the home service provider is unavailable. PRL's do change so it's a good idea to ask for a PRL upgrade every 6 months or so if you do a lot of roaming outside your home service area.

it's the part of the phone's operating system.

not exactly the operating system, but a part of the carrier signal infomrmation.

then why it is changed?

i beleive that there are two copies of the PRL.

PRL 1 and PRL 2

one of them acts as a backup

well, it's showing PRL 2 because the phone is currently using PRL 2 for current operation.

but why are u bothered as long as the phone is working fine with any one of the PRL's

look, the PRL's do not have to do anything with you'r roming habits.

it's just an identifier for the service provider (reliance)

prolly U can change - if u were to overwrite with the older one U backed up ...

but again since they (LG) replaced ur board they might have changed some other info too and Ur older PRL may not work ..

who knows phone may not boot up too ??

I was trying a brilliant/??stupidest idea - sending sms to a email address

Goto the sms directory using Bitpim..

In a sms U recieved from a GSM - You can edit the sender's number with a hex editor and replace it with the email address. Close bitpim.

Now goto the mobile SMS menu Openmessage. Select the option reply. Type the New message of Ur choice and send it ...

SMS/Mail is delivered to the destination email box

The obvious limitation is the length of the email ID and most of the ID's can't be used.

Now I am not a php/perl expert - but if one has his own mail server I thnk he/she can write a script to check for a authenicode info at the end of the SMS'mail and if present then send mail with the SMS contents to the email address which is present at the end of the SMS ... So you can mail is available anywhere even if R-World goes paid and U don't wnat to use it, and once setup it can be very fast and simple as any SMS

Try all this at Ur own risk..

But U SHOULD KNOW THE LIMITATION...

Never exceed the phone number space in the SMS (Don't use INSERT in the hex Editor). I did and I think now lost my board as it never booted up again

I think the cause is that the oversized email address string corrupted the files where recent numbers are stored which is subject to a lot of "fraud checking"
