rakma 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 I am considering buying a reliance mobile connection. The RD 2130 comes for 4500. For 5100 I can get a color Siemens A60 GSM phone. Is it worthwhile to go for LG RD 2130. Is it a good model. Which is the best black & white Reliance CDMA model. Does RD 2130 have all the features to make full use of Reliance Mobile facilities. Chirag 5 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 Among the LG B/W phones, LG2130 seems to be quite good. There are quite some functions in LG2130 which r not avl in LG2030 n LG2230. Only thing as of now, is tht u cannot tweak the phone, to upload ur own ringtones from the PC . Otherwise, its quite good. U might want to check out the following Threads:: Samsung Colour Phone is Expensive - Here we discussed how Samsung phones are expensive but quite a value for money. But i doubt if Samsung B/W phones are still avl! If u r planning to use R-Connect etc, u might want to check this thread:: Postpaid / Prepaid / RIP / Which handset?, Whts best for R Connect ? Code 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 I think almost all the phones are capable of accessing the features provided by RIM though at the level of user interface features may vary and some of them can be irritating - eg in 7130 U cannot use the number from incoming call list to SMS (either U need to have a strong memory or use a pen and paper). But again what seems to be a crippling limitation for one may not even be noticed by another - depends upon personal prefs too . . . I advice U to search the forum for posts about your would-be model and also some one with that model may throw more light.
Mahidhar 3 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 hi ... ive been using the 2130 for almost a week now .... feel free to ask me if u wanna know anything more about it. It has group messaging, although i still havent used it so far. Messaging is a breeze ... the 2030 takes quite a long time and u keep getting network error msgs ... till today i havent got this error on my phone. coming to the backlight, the 2030 has 3+3 leds whereas the 2130 has 2+2 for the backlight and the battery seems to last longer it comes with the travel charger ... there is no desktop charger available (the battery does not have the charging points like the 2030's).... this means no scratching while charging ringtones sound much better than the 2030's tones although i dont find any hot tunes ... they're decent and like chirag said, nobody has found a way to add tones ... so u mite have to stick to the tones provided ! but they're quite decent ... dont worry. it has profiles like the nokia models and u can assign menu shortcuts for ur frequently used menu options it looks very cute !! u wanna know anything more ? rakma 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Thanks, Hritik. Actually main reason for going for CDMA/Reliance for me is to access Reliance World and access internet in the office. I will be gratefull if you give your assessment of the phone in these two areas. Further, are the new ringtones downloadable from Reliance . Thanks.
Code 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Yes - New ringtones available at R-World can be downloaded and I think U can even get SMS ringtones (3) later - when RIL provides such a ability (I don't think other models have that) Bitpim doesn't show the file system of 2130 ?? or only the ringtone files ? May be some one can try BAL/Gagin on it and see if it helps.
Mahidhar 3 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 the signal seems to be stable ... not oscillating like the 2030 ... R world is fast and u dont keep getting the not connected error message. regarding the net, i dont use r conenct ... so i wouldnt no about it.... the ringtones via sms is still not functional but i think soon it will be
ssr 10 Report post Posted June 28, 2004 Code what is BAL and where it is available
Code 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2004 BAL is Brew App Loader available as part of brew SDK by Quallcomm - I think u can get hold of only this exe or it's modified version called Gagin by doing a Google search. It doesn't work on 7130 so may be try it on 2130 and especially samsung ...
ssr 10 Report post Posted June 29, 2004 Gagin I already tried it did not worked So i am planing to start developing my own application after some time if no tools are available or Bitpim does not works even after the some more releases
Jacob 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Hi Rakma, I have seen pretty good explantions in detail about RD2130. Well I have been using this phone for a month now and it has messed me up very much. First I had to upgrade its software due to backlight problem. Then I had to reburn its RWorld Application. Now again I am in trouble with R World Applications. Now they ask me to do a Complete Board Swap. I think these processes are gonna be a routine with this tiny piece of LG. Moreoever, LG Service Centers are the worst service centers I ever seen. I have been using Samsung N191 earlier and whenever I went to the Samsung Service Centre, I had tremendous service experience. But LG Service Centre and its service are pathetic. Well if you consider a good display in B/W handsets available with Reliance, you are forced to go for LG. Otherwise you can opt for Samsung and considering the service and quality, I personally prefer Samsung than LG. The signal is NOT seemed to be stable on my phone. I am working in the largest Business complex of Delhi (Nehru Place) and on my 12th Floor office the signal fall to nill every now n then. But considering all aspects of service, I prefer Reliance as it has a overall good signal strenght compared to other GSM services in Delhi in particular. Good luck guys! Code 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2004 Don't know if this fits well to this thread. But I saw that a modified version (Root patched) of GAGIN shows the files in 7130 (I know bitpim already does) but may be some on can try it on LG 2130 and Samsung to see if the ringtone folder is seen I am attaching it in a zip file split in two parts. NB: If moderators have any objection to this kind of file. Please delete it. No need to prior inform me. BREW_Root.zip
Mahidhar 3 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Ok... a little more about the 2130. For msging maniacs, theres some bad news. the maximum no of characters supported by the phone is 140 whereas in the good old 2030 it is 160 so be prepared to send shorter messages ... the worst thing is that if a person sends u messages exceeding the 140 limit, the message gets truncated so u lose out on all the long jokes and messages ... hey jacob, any idea if this is corrected in the newer versions of the software ? Jacob 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 hey jacob, any idea if this is corrected in the newer versions of the software ? Hrithik, No, this problem is not yet solved with their new software version. Since I am not an SMS maniac i was not worried about this problem But i missed a very good joke sent by my friend as the climax was not there bcz of this damn piece of moon @#$@#. I have search about one week on internet and found that LG RD 2130 phone is the best phone that suits to my cost (around Rs. 3000). But in this thread I have found many negative posts for this handset As I have seen that last post (prior to mine) in this thread is almost one year old. Now what is the situation of this phone??????? Please suggest me should I purchase this phone or there is some other better option in my Price Range. Thanks in advance.
