The best option to go for wireless Skype Phones. You can buy it directly from here , at Skype's own site or from Amazon.

Price will vary from Rs. 6000 to Rs.9000 plus customs duty.

Even mobile phones have this capability; you may try E61i or P1i which supports VoIP Calls but it is bit expensive(around 18K-19K) if you just look for VOIP Calls alone. These are basically mobile phones with VoIP capability.

If I go for skype phone will it work for other VOIP services? I really do not want locked or pre configured handset, which can not be used for other sevices later.

Before procuring VOIP phone, one need to check the signaling supported by your phone and your ITSP (internet telephony service provider). I have tried getting our Ericsson MD110 exchange configured for SIP base VOIP, but it does not have SIP support. It has only H.323 support. Skype phones use proprietary signaling and can only subscribe to Skype services. But SIP does not work if you behind a firewall in a private IP island. Running your own SIP proxy does not make sense unless everyone in the world is registered with it, or it can talk to SIPproxy of some other operator, making it feasible to communicate with others having SIP based phones. So wait, till we have ITSP operations in India. I feel that VOIP, IPTV and Interactive Group communication systems will soon be there. But before all this can happen, our network operators have to migrate to IPv6 supported network providing full QoS support.
