copperco2 24 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 ACi to launch first diary sized laptops in India BANGALORE: Allied Computers International (Asia Ltd) will soon launch the first ever diary sized and low priced laptops in the country. Priced at Rs 14,999, the laptops will have impressive feature like VIA 1.0 GHz ULV CPU, 512GB RAM, 40GB hard disk along with WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities, company chairman and Managing Director Hirji Kanthibhai Patel said today. The laptops will be introduced in the market by the first quarter of this year and will be available throughout India through company showrooms and through tie ups with supermarkets, malls and retails showroom franchisess, he said. The standard model will be aimed at those looking for basic office suite and internet capabilities, he said, adding that the company planned to bring the higher end version of the same model priced around Rs 22,000. "Technology has been growing in leaps and bounds in our country. Contributing to this growth, I want to bring technology to every man's doorstep. The production and roll out is planned for March 2008 and will initially be available only in Mumbai, Gujarat, Pune and Delhi, the company is planning to launch it in other Indian cities through its own multi-brand laptop service centres in the metros.. The new laptop has a seven inch TFT screen, weighs 950 grams and has the size of a simple diary to ensure it fits nicely within ones briefcase or carry bag without adding weight to ones shoulder. The basic model Via C7M 1.0GHz starts at Rs.14999/- taxes additional i believe I guess if the screen size can be extended to fit the lead size then it will be more attractive ofcourse at the same price.. and yes dd i mention more then 1.0GHz and yes more hard disk and yes..... ACI has launched India’s first laptop for Rs 15,000. The 7-inch TFT screen with a built-in web camera might be too small for tasks like picture processing, but the standard model is aimed at the users with very basic needs. For more demanding customers, the company is planning a high-end version of the same with Windows Vista capability. The price for this will range from Rs 25,000 to 30,000. The basic model might sound romantic for an Indian customer, but the fact is that this diary-sized wonder comes with quite some strings attached. This computer cannot run a Windows OS, and hence you need pay for getting Linux uploaded on to this system. Thus, taxes included, the laptop will actually cost above Rs 21,000. The laptop will have a 1 GHz CPU, 40GB hard disk, Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities and will weigh just 950 grams. Considering the fact that the pricing, eventually, might not be that less, there may not be as many takers as expected for this product. The mobile way Laptop sizes as well as prices have gone down fast. In the year 2004, ACi has always been a pioneer in the laptop market, reducing the costs to Rs 30,000 in 2004, to Rs 15,000 now. “The laptop industry is developing in the same way as the cell phone industry has developed, people want them to be smaller and cheaper,” commented Patel. He estimates laptops becoming even cheaper in the future. “People today want everything small in size, and they want their laptops like that too. They don’t want to carry a case for a laptop and a different case for papers,” Patel explained. The new mini laptop is light, only 950 grams, and it should fit easily even in to a women’s large purse. TV turns into a PC? One of the mini laptop’s weaknesses is the small screen, and this is acknowledged in the ACi, too. Buthow could a tiny laptop be combined with a big, PC screen? Here’s the answer. “First we hit the Indian market with low-cost LCD televisions. Next, we plan to launch a LCD TV with a built-in PC. Finally, we will introduce a docking system for the laptop to be attached to the TV,” said Patel. This means, that one can insert the mini-laptop to the TV like a videocassette to the VCR and operate one’s computer using the large screen. I will anytime go for ACi nanobook simply because i can not work with a 8GB HDD. its not an advantage to have a flash HDD with so less memory at the price i will be getting a 40GB nanobook. And notebooks of this size are basically for web browsing, remote desktop and document editing.
