MasterMind 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2004 Hi Guys, This is for all you techies out there... I noticed that along the way, in this forum some people like Static, Jayant etc had developed some serious software utilities... But, somewhere along the line most of got dropped after the beta version or so..... So, whats the probs...? Are the rest of us not giving enough support and encouragement to the creators...? Jayant's CDMA Detect could connect to lg2030 and detect values from the memory...... I expected that utility to improve and replace bitPIM in course of time..... but, i have not heard of it for a long time now... everyone seems to be very satisified with changing ringtones and wallpapers..... So, were Static's Ringtone and Wallpaper utilities.... they were too good.. but, we couldnt see any more releases of the same.... Of course, I understand that all these are very busy people who have their work/academics to do.... But, all the same if they would somehow take time out to develop more on those lines.... Its just a opinion....
StaticElectricity 8 Report post Posted July 3, 2004 hmm, frankly to reply , thanks for the enthusiasm. it's really appreciated. u know, ever since i released the programs, the (combined) amount of feedback i have got is 14. yes, exactly that amount. and i put in something like 50+ hrs in writing the software (combined). so i does seem a bit like a dampner dosent it? moreover, there should be a scope for programing the next version. u know, i mean just cant sit and change 2-3 lines of code and put out a new version, it does take a bit of time, afterall, we;re not microsoft and we dont have a team of 50 engineers writing software so that ppl will expect a new version of windows every year, moreover there are other botlenecks such as not getting documentation, like i searched and searched and serached, but i did not find a single documentation explaning the BREW protocol. so here we are. that's all i can say. PS:- any kind of help would be much appreciated
Utsav 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2004 Pls don't mind Static, but creators are creating masterpieces from the compulsion within. No acknowledgement or gratitude can be enough for them. I've been using your softwares but never wrote to you, not because I'm ungrateful, but rather I think that you guys are well beyond reach. I'm not going to thank you for your creations but remember, I'll always be looking forward for them. That's the thing we do for the God. Don't we?
MasterMind 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2004 tarbasu, You dooooo sound flattering.......
MasterMind 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2004 Ok... I do understand your point.. Static... This is what I propose.... If the mods/admins permit, I suggest we have a seperate category to discuss and improvise on the software utilities... 1. The creators will have to upload the souce code of the utilities as well. 2. All the technical guys will work together on improvising the utilities. 3. We shall have a proper versioning system. 4. We can invite other hard core techies interested in mobile related progamming to contribute (who may not be interested in other RIM discussions) 5. We can have a wishlist to which all members of the forum can post their ideas (however fantastic). What do you think? I understand that this will mean more responsbility and headache to the mods/admins. But, think about it, in course of time, we will be able learn, discover a lot more about mobile phones and their technology. Also, this will mean growth in the intellectual population in the forum. The forum cant go on for ever with morons like me asking long repeated questions now and then... We need someone to come up fresh and new challenges and answers... Who knows... one day this forum may even be accepted as an absolute authority on that side of the technology.... Like Flashkit.com turned out to be synonymous with macromdia flash. This is just a suggestion. Just food for thought for the mods/admins and the rest of the members. Sleep over it and then comment...

karpar 1 Report post Posted July 12, 2004 sure, take your time, though this is "general chat" but still off-topic, id like to know which branch of engg. you take...ive taken eee. all the very best for your admission!
StaticElectricity 8 Report post Posted July 12, 2004 i read the docu on the site, but unfortunately enuf, as all other documentations i have found, the documentations relate themselves only with the BREW SDK's, not the BREW PROTOCOL(BREW INTERFACE), which is used for PC-2-PHONE communications as in BitPim. what exactly i wanted is, the technical specifications of the BREW PROTOCOL, like what is the BAUD RATE At which it operates, (which i know is 3.8 Kb/s) and what is the format for passing DATA,COMMANDS etc to the phone. Using which i can write a serial communication alogrythm, which directly communicates with the phone. (as in BitPim)
Code 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Yeah I couldn't any details about that. I don't think they have a high level interface there and exposing the low level interface to public may be harmful from their point of view (User may hack anything/evade billing etc) _ I remember to have seen some discussion like that somewhere. Coldfire_Sunny 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2006 Hey all.... n hi static.... Y don u jst visit the authorised BitPim team? they r more than eager to lend u a helping hand.... I've seen them sharing the complete code including the protocol in an old ver of BitPim(abt last april)... Cmon man cheer up.... We all r wid u... I've also heard that u can get sum info frm the BREW official portal site... But i don think they have info abt the PROTOCOL.... N one mre thing.... Hav u heard abt GAGIN?? they say in the info that "MOST O" THE CODE HAS BEEN BORROWED/TAKEN FRM QPST" so y not follow their path? maybe if we proceed in this day....... Some day we mite develop our own applications on BREW..... or may be WE can some day upload the the verizon BREW games nd Appsavailable on net in to our Reliance phones.... without using R-World... which translates in to without gettin charged for us.... For ppl like me having gud phones like LG RD6000 (costing 10k bucks)but having R-World is crap... its waste o' money.... those games in R-World arent worthy o' the money we spend on them. Kudos, Sunny
StaticElectricity 8 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 yea , thats true that rworld is crap. but hey getting the BREW docu aint easy... BitPim ppl will NOT , i repeat WILL NOT lend u a helping hand if u are not actually coding something as a plugin/ enhancement for BitPim... and Bitpim is coded using Python... and... python is unfortunately not such a popular language.. so u cant ask them explanation for da code ...the reply is ..."hey all da code is out there ...findout for urself.." well ... la de dah...
