Bsnl Enters Mobile Bundle Business

Recommended Posts

After Reliance, TATA, Spice and Vodafone, now its turn of BSNL to enter mobile bundle business.

BANGALORE, February 13, 2008: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Karnataka circle today launched the handset bundle in GSM segment.

The handset bundle was the "cheapest in its segment and was sure to give stiff competition in the market. Karnataka circle became the first circle in the country to do so" according to the BSNL Chief General Manager T.S. Kuppuswamy.

The bundle has been developed with technical assistance of Digibee Microsystems and the handsets are SIM locked and BSNL network locked.

The subscriber will get an initial validity of 7 days with Rs.10 initial free talk time. The free talk time comes in Rs.100 per month with every monthly re-charge of a minimum of Rs. 100 per month for fifteen months from the date of activation. The product which is available in both pre-paid and post paid variants has been launched with a package of Rs. 1458 for colour handset with a free talk time of Rs. 1500. Activation is free of cost. The handset has been put together with indigenous components and software and will have FM radio thrown in with the package.

For the first time since the BSNL became a corporate entity ten years back it has launched its product in a typical corporate style. The show included laser lights, dancing kids, music and fanfare.

BSNL is quite old in bundled offer business, not a new entrant. The same is true for MTNL in their CDMA wing (Garuda).

BSNL offered touch screen PocketPC mobile in their postpaid segment some time back, bundled NOKIA sets in prepaid segment and in CDMA service (Tarang mobile and WLL sets of LG), they bundle hansets.

What happened in Karnataka circle is nothing new, only the tariff structure may be more attractive.

@sougata

My dear friend, you may be right that BSNL is quite old in offering bundled products. But here is the point of pricing. The touch screen pocket pc mobile or bundled Nokia were not provided below the standard price.

But in this new bundle offer BSNL is offering much more less rates for a Colour and FM enabled handset. What more can a subscriber expect of, where he is getting back for what he has paid in the form of talk time.

Anyways, in my point of view this is quite an attractive offer for middle class.

Regards.
