Lg 2030 Usb Data Cable Cannot Install As Modem

Recommended Posts

God know if there is a way to install LG2030 via USB cord on my laptop running window XPP.

Last 18 days I have got 7 data cables from various vendors, tried with their original supplied CD as well as downloaded the latest drivers from Reliance website, nothing works.

Today took 4 cables to nearest webworld the tech person tried all 4 of them but none worked, He installed the samsung usb cord (original reliance)& that worked like a charm, he indeed confirmed that 2030 should also work for sure but all the stock is finished of 2030 USB cables, so no chance to get one.

The constant problem is at one particular step where after reebooting it ask to connect the usb cord & it should install the driver THINGS FAIL HERE, & the NEXT button remains deactivated, I tried installing manually have read all the threads regarding this on this forum, tried every thing discussed, but cannot install this Dhirubahi's Stupid modem.

Any help is welcome in this regard. I feel the required driver for XP is not the correct one but not sure if I am correct.

Please help.

A wrong driver won't install anyway.

Even if a right driver is used .... at the step U mentioned what error do U get after U install the driver manually - using the windows wizard ??

Does it say driver installation failed??

If so U can try one thing. even if it says so close it.

Now goto modems in Control Panel and add a New Modem - In the list U will find LG USB modem. Select that and set it up.

Now crate a Dialup connection manually - using that modem set the dialup number to #777 and Ur mdn No as user/pass. If I am on the right track of Ur prob - I can try to help U more. Good Luck :)

Hi Ranjan,

Please remember that it creates a great conflict if you install BITPIM, LGSync or any other mobile accessing software alongwith RConnect. I've seen many a time that windows don't detect the phone if I install them. Even after uninstalling the softwares, it doesn't work. You need to clean the whole track the s/w might be using through editing the Registry or in worst case, you may need to reinstall Windows.

Best of luck.

Even if a right driver is used .... at the step U mentioned what error do U get after U install the driver manually - using the windows wizard ??

I dont get any error the "NEXT" button does not activate remains grey meaning the phone is not being recognized.

In the list U will find LG USB modem. Select that and set it up.

This is excatly the problem when I tried doing it manually it does not get installed as LG usb modem neither shows in the device manager. I installed it as standard 28000 modem but then the even choosing various com port the modem query fails.

7 cables cant be faulty, so is the case with usb ports since I use other devices by connecting on the same ports.

My only guess is my mobile phone port may be faulty, will get it confirmed by service centre today.

Can anyone tell me the excat name of the driver file required for XP , so I can confirm that I have the right driver. Another thing to note is that I have USB 2.0 not 1.1, could that be a issue.

I did install bitpim much later but opnly on 1 of the computer, so that may not be the issue.

Thanks for ur suggestion.

ranjan, i know your trouble coz its the same i faced...

what you have to do is, first install the driver for the usb cable which you have already done...then when the system reboots, you still find the next button deactivated. this is because after rebooting, you selected lg rd2030 with usb again.

instead of that select lg rd2030 with SERIAL. select the port as COM4.

click on YES. it will detect the phone and install it.

remember to connect the phone with the usb cable to your cpu before doing this.

Hi Karpar

if this is true, then its strange, but I tried in 2000 & the hardware wizard does not come up at all, seem some trace from previous installation is left on the system.

I manually installed the hardware & finally can see it in device manager as LG usb modem, but choosing the serial driver this time as per ur suggestion.(sheer stupid interface)

But the modem query still fails & the rconnect dialler was not created so still cannot connect to the modem.

Atleast moved forward finally installing the modem.

OK sometimes this happens (Yes stupid XP) - Infact just a day back I was stuck up like this (very much vexing problem - I was about to uninstall windows XP :P ). So..

1.Disconnect all the devices from your real COM ports (COM1 and COM2) to avoid conflicts.

2.Uninstall the partially Installed Driver:

To uninstall goto:

Drivers\LG\LGUSB\LGUsbConverterDriver

folder on your CD and click on Ftdiunin.exe. This will uninstall partially installed drivers and Reboot Ur machine.

3. Reinstall again - but with the phone USB disconnected.

4. When the machine reboots - U will get the setup screen again. Select the model of Ur phone and USB option and continue.

5. Now connect Ur phone to the USB port (the one on the back of Ur lap is better than the one on the side). The setup won't detect the phone anyway __ forget  it.

6. Windows will detect the phone and a New Hardware Icon will appear in your Taskbar Notification Area aka "system tray" besides the clock. Wait for a few minutes (or double click that icon). U will see a "Found New Hardware Wizard" from windows.

7. In that wizard just click Next and Next (windows will automatically use the driver just placed by Ur setup before Reboot). XP will give a big warning about "Driver Not signed"  Just say continue (it asks twice I think). Do the same for Virtual serial Post Installation which folloes next.

8. Once the wizard is finished U see the RIM setup trying to install the modem __ but it will fail with a error and says "Installation failed" __ Never mind  .

9. Now goto windows Start Menu --> Control Panel.

10. Click on "Phone and Modem Options" Icon.

U have three tabs "Dialing Rules" , "Modems" and "Advanced". Select "Modems" tab and Click on "Add button".

11. An "Add New Hardware Wizard" welcomes you. Click 'Next"

12. Windows will autodetect your modem and it will be visible in the options as LG USB modem.

13. Select that and set it up - when asked for the COM port select COM4 or 3 (whichever it shows __ not COM1 or 2 which are real COM ports).

14. Set up a DUN connection. In the windows Control Panel click on "Network Connections" tab.

15. In network connections window  goto File Menu. Select the menu item "New Connection.."  Cick Next twice. Now U have three Radio button options: Select the second one : "Set up my connection manually". Click Next. Select "Connect using a dial-up modem" Click Next:

NOW U will see the modems available on your system in a List box.

Select the Modem -  LG USB Modem(COM4). Click Next.

Enter the name for the connection - say "Reliance". Clcik Next.

Enter the phone number #777 Type Ur MDN number as user name and pass (STD code without the Zero). Click Next.

Click Finish. Voila Done :)

U can create a shortcut to that connection on the desktop.

Also reconnect other USB and serial devices back and Reboot.

It was a bit long description. Go through carefully. Hope it helps some ;)

Good Luck.

Edit: BTW I don't think selecting the serial option is gonna helpas it will no doubt install the modem but.. it will be on COM1 and NOT on Virtual COM port i.e COM3 or COM4 So it won't work.

did you install all the drivers for the usb cable???

open add remove prgs from control panel and check if LGUSBCONVERTERDRIVER and FTDI USB SERIAL CONVERTER DRIVERS are present. if any of them arent, i suggest you unistall the one thats present and start all over again.

anyway, try once more...follow the instructions given to a T upto the point where you have to restart.

its worked for me, thats why im so sure.

Thanks for all these replies but I am still left frustated here is the screen shot this time I managed to install the modem manually, NO it does not install automatically at all.

LGUSBCONVERTERDRIVER get sinstalled & I can sse that in Program files but FTDI USB SERIAL CONVERTER DRIVERS not sure about this where do I look for this. I have never seen this ever in past 19 days over 50 installation attempts. This may be another problem.

I tried on com ports 1 2 3 but its does not find the modem, also to note my note book has only 3 uSB ports so how is it showing me the COM port are they part of USB , not sure.

Will try any further suggestion, thanks a lot.

NO it does not install automatically at all.

Yeah once a unsigned device f**ts on XP. No more automatic Install :P untill U either do a succesful manual Install or a System Restore to a Previous point (If U had enabled it and have a suitable restore Point) or do a clean Reinstall of XP itself.

So back to the dark area of manual Install...

First attempt:

Just click the setup again(don't uninstall anything) and select U phone model 2030 I guess and USB. Now connect the USB cable. run the setup. No wonder it should fail and exit.

Now do the step 9 to 15 mentioned in my earlier post.

If U have any probs let me know.

If the connection that is setup fails (or U don't have a option like LG USB modem at all -- Unlikely) then follow this post below for some troubleshooters:

First of all U may consider taking a break for a day from this setup

buisiness. I know U must have gone *mad* installing-Uninstalling that.

In your screenshot what is MAT USB-to-Serial Bridge (COM3)?

In mine I see: "USB Serial Port (COM4)" in it's place.

I am placing a screenshot of it's prperties below(next post).

So I am wondering if U tried installing a third party USB-Serial driver at

any point? and that it is left behind and occupying Ur COM3 thereby preventing the install of the FTDI driver that comes with R-Connect setup*.

Some one else with the latest R-Connect setup can check in their device manager and help ranjan2001 regarding this.

If it proves not to be the one I suggest U uninstall that and then try again..

(U can remove that from the device manager itself(Rt click-> Remove) and reinstall. If it is not part of the Reliance R-Connect package it won't come back :)and U R confirmed of the problem.

Now I ask U one more last question.

Did U select the choice of Ur modem as COM during the setup run after Reboot as karpar suggested ?

Never do that as Ur USB driver is in partial trouble and device(phone) won't be detected. Select USB only even if that mean's - the setup ending with a error.

Also I show U the screenshot of my device manager which shows three

things:

1. LG USB MODEM - under modems

2. USB Serial Port (COM4)

3. USB High speed Serial Converter - Under Universal Serial Bus controllers.

I can't see the third one in Ur's as U haven't expanded that branch of the

tree.

Check that it is there.

I think U r really close to complete the setup. Good Luck again.

Can I ask what City are U from ranjan2001 if U don't mind?

So karpar U mean to say U don't have "MAT USB-to-Serial Bridge".

If so then ranjan has to uninstall that one from device manager and start over again (Step 1 to 15 I mentioned above).

Ok guys understood the source of problem partially, 20 days ago when 1st installation failed the shop keeper told me to that this 2030 only works with serial to usb convertor attached to the cable, not convinced with him I tried another cable & same happened & another shopkeeper told me the same, this time I asked him to install himself , he did so via other driver & different cd & sure it started working via serial to usb convertor............I guess thats the left over driver which now is not letting me install it.

I did a system restore (hardware profile) & this time that MAT USB-to-Serial Bridge did not get installed on its own, instead the "found new hardware" wizard came in but wanted to install as "prolific USB 2 serial com port" & forces me to look for "ser2pl.sys" file which is again not the right one as per my guess, Can you confirm this for me. This is another driver I downloaded for which I read about in a thread on this forum regarding the installation problem.

Doing it manually 1-15, I get stuck at step 13 , Windows autodetect my modem and it is visible in the options as LG USB modem but then when I "Have Disk" it cant find the driver so I manually choose, what should be the file for win XP, I guess there is win2k file which works for XP too.

I tried using LGUSB convertor driver there are 3 files in this folder but window gives me error saying "this does not contain info about ur hardware" so it fails.

Few question were to me, I am from Delhi, to attach any image go to the bottom of the page"file attachment" where u reply to the post, there u can browse to a gif or jpg file which will show in the post.

Screenshot 2 included.

Just wondering will this help me

from the site

Use this driver for the USB Data cable to turn your mobile phone into a highspeed modem. Remember to create a dial-up networking shortcut, selecting the "USB modem" as the connection method. This is the free driver provided by Future dial.

http://members.driverguide.com/driver/deta...driverid=130729

I confirm that this does not work with 2030, dont download this.

Thanks for the confirmation, I am using a notebook win XPP, as well as desktop win 2000 pro. Both installation have failed.

I have the CD with with the data cable & I downloaded the "rconnect_lg_rd_2030_usb" instalation from relience the link was found in a post on this forum. If it is the same which u want to mail me then no need, but if its different then yes mail me to ranjan2001 at rediffmail dot com.

Thanks again all of you who have helped me till now, I am hopeful I can do it with ur help.

isnt there a file called LGUsbConverterDriver.exe in the folder called LGUSB?

You have to run that file...

If you can't find the FTDI Serial USB driver in your ADD/REMOVE prgs, run ftdiunin.exe to uninstall any partial installations and try again.

I think the LGUsbConverterDriver.exe in the folder called LGUSB is just the frontend for the file installusb.exe in your screenshot, so try running that if you can't find the previous file.

If none of the above works, then tell me and I'll send you the drivers...

(I'm basically lazy to upload a 3.26MB file)!

I have that & thats the 1st part of the installation which has no problem in installation, my problem is the driver for the LG usb modem that does not get installed, windows should find that automatically but doesent do it.

it does not show in the add remove program neither on win 2000 nor in XPP.

This now seems to be some kind of black magic to me hard to master.

No need to email the driver, you have confirmed that we both have the same driver, I am going to the web world just now with a clean install of XP & a new data cable, will report back within 3 hrs what happens.

Yeah Karper already suggested one option.

But I am begining to think that U R unable to remove all the traces of the third party driver(s) U installed and that is the root cause of the problem.

In the last post of this topic U asked which driver to select when asked for ser2pl.sys I think the corresponding entry is FTSERIAL.SYS but I fear that windows should have actally asked for FTSERIAL.SYS

So older driver info is still in registry. I really don't know how to remove that unless U have a Uninstaller bundled with that setup which installed this ser2pl.sys driver once.

U may try to remove all the regsitry keys containing this entry (ser2pl.sys , Prolific and USB-to-Serial) manually from regedit but only if U R comfortable with regsitry editing and after backing up regsitry.

K if U R doing to a clean install of Xp then I don't think my suggestions are anymore relevant. I think U shouldn't have any of those partially installed driver problems then

Dhirubhai ki atma ko shanti mile magar

I FAILED FAILED FAILED, god knows why a simple task is made that impossible.

Did the following win 2000 desktop edited registery deleted all the traces of ser2pl.sys, prolofic & mat were deleted before.

In the last post of this topic U asked which driver to select when asked for ser2pl.sys I think the corresponding entry is FTSERIAL.SYS but I fear that windows should have actally asked for FTSERIAL.SYS

It ask for .INF file not .sys file so in my case on both the platforms. screenshot enclosed.

Win XP pro clean install, new data cable went to web world, the tech guy did his best but failure is the only thing we have acheived in last 20 days, could not install. He then took a samsung phone & usb cable installed it & within 2 min dialler was installed & the internet connection was established.

He then did the my 2030 with serial cable using a serial to usb hardware convertor & choose serial connection & that too get installed.

Now why the hell :P 2030 does not work with usb.

GOD help those who have been trying to help me so much.

Nothing further left to tell u guys, I am finished :'(

code, the driver files come with the extension .inf.

how come it doesnt recognise only the usb cable???

try this one last time...

1. uninstall lgusbconvertor driver(previous installation)

2. restart w/o plugging in the usb cable.

3. run the cd that came along with your cable.

4. select lg rd2030 and usb cable. it will install the relevant drivers and automatically reboot.

5. the software will run automatically upon rebooting. THIS TIME, SELECT LG RD2030 AND SERIAL CABLE.

6. it will show a screen that has a port selection options, choose your relevant port after connecting the usb cable.

windows will recognise your cable, just keep pressing NEXT and the installation should complete w/o any hassle.

7. click on YES in the rconnect window and it WILL detect the phone and install the rest of the drivers and the rconnect dialer.

and the most important of all, convince yourself THIS IS GOING TO WORK before you start, and upload the pic of the window with the port selection options and the yes button after you click on serial cable just so that i know you did it right...
