HTC Shift with EVDO and GSM/HSDPA approved by FCC

The information about HTC Clio 200 and HTC Clio 100 UMPC appeared on FCC site at the end of November.

There wasn’t much details about these Clio devices at the time, but people in the know quickly concluded that these are HTC Shift UMPCs, headed for the U.S.

They were right. Today the external photos and users manual for Clio 100 became public. It leaves no doubt, that Clio 100 is in fact HTC Shift UMPC for GSM/HSDPA networks.

Just to remind you what all the hoopla is about, here’s HTC Shift UMPC specs:

  • (Probably) Qualcomm QSC6085 chipset for CDMA/EVDO version
  • 1 GB DDR2 RAM for Windows Vista + 64MB of RAM
  • 64 MB RAM and 128 MB ROM for SnapVUE
  • 40 or 60 GB 1.8″ HDD with optional G-Sensor shock protection
  • Windows Vista Business OS
  • 7″ 800×480 px 262K color touch sensitive TFT LCD
  • Internal GPS
  • Color CMOS VGA camera for videoconferencing

    • HSDPA: Up to 3.6Mbps for download, 384kbps for upload

    [*]For CDMA/EVDO networks:

    • CDMA2000 1xEVDO/1xRTT.0A (850/1900)

From spec and design point of view, HTC Shift is one of the best UMPCs around. Contrary to the most of the competition it can operate for days as a mobile data/PDA device, with always on connection to 3G networks. Also, when needed, HTC Shift can become a full blown ultra mobile PC with full fledged Windows Vista Business OS and all necessary Office and other productivity applications.

And now, that it passed through the FCC, we could start looking for HTC Shift on Verizon and Sprint, as well as AT&T networks in U.S.
