coolrajiv 1 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 It happens only in Kashmir. The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited laid the underground optical cable in Natipora in the city outskirts here few months ago but forgot to fix the junctions, marring the entire project. The negligence has not only cost lakhs of rupees to the BSNL, for it would have to redo the work for fitting the junctions, it also kept the people from availing the facility, sources said. BSNL had started the installation of the cables in Natipora here three months ago. However, after three months of hard labor the cables are still non-functional as the installers forgot to fit the junctions in the cable network, they said. The negligence by the authorities, experts said, has messed the whole project and caused unnecessary inconvenience to the residents. Local residents said the BSNL had not been serious in the work. “Initially they dug up the roads and caused much inconvenience to the pedestrians. Now to fix the junctions they would have to again dig up the roads which would again put us to unnecessary inconvenience,” they said. When contacted deputy general manager BSNL said: “We don’t have any information about it.” He said the entire work of installation was being carried under a separate project and if they have forgotten fix the junctures at the time of laying the cable, the project heads were responsible for it. However, the DGM said the project was expected to be completed by March this year.
