It is always showing "Cannot detect Net Booster server,Net Booster is stopped' -----what about the speed will these wireless data cards have a fixed speed of 144kbps?? Can the company improve thse speeds further? Those are my questions I hope some one here solves my queries Edited April 22, 2008 by rbpyogesh
Arun 795 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 well, a wireless data card is going to be no match for a broadband connection. I'm not sure the TATA Indicom broadband plan is expensive than Reliance NetConnect when you can get a 128 kbps unlimited connection for Rs.700 per month with TATA Indicom broadband. A speed of 80 kbps is average on a wireless card practically. NetBooster isn't going to increase your speed drastically, you can get more information about it here: www.rimweb.in/forums/index.php?showtopic=9437 -----what about the speed will these wireless data cards have a fixed speed of 144kbps?? Never, those are "theoretical" speeds and the maximum speed supported by the network and the device. Maybe if no one else if using Reliance network in your area and if you get full signals, you may get the maximum speed specified. Practically, you can't even get close depending upon the network conditions. Wireless data cards are good only if broadband is not available in your area and to be used on your laptop when travelling.
rbpyogesh 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 Thanks for the reply,Tata Indicom is quite costly compared to other Isp's the 128 ul costs around Rs 800 inclusive of taxes and i am facing plenty of disconnections so i moved to reliance but it is true that this is no way near the BB i am hardly getting any speed The downloading is even worse it is just 6-7 kBps But Arun my question is whether it is possible for the companies to increase the speed of datacards from the present 144 or 154 kbps{Tata plug 2 surf} to 256 kbps or more or is the speed of data card and other wireless cards fixed at 144 kbps And also is it Possible to increase my downloading speed to atlease 16kBps from 6-7 kBps?? kshah 452 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 Speed mentioned are not even theoretical, they are burst speed. So 156 kbps is burst speed and 60-80 kbps is consistent speed user can expect. If you consider total packet losses and latency, 40-60 kbps in CDMA and 20-40 kbps in EDGE (GSM) is fair dependable speed.

Higher wireless speed is possible only with CDMA + EVDO presently provided by BSNL at select areas You can check if the BSNL EVDO datacard option is available at your place. Burst speeds of 1.8 mbps and unlimited connection for 550 month Edited April 23, 2008 by commonman
Arun 795 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 And also is it Possible to increase my downloading speed to atlease 16kBps from 6-7 kBps?? You mentioned 6 kbps in your first post, and you say 6 kBps now. Since you are getting 6 - 7 kBps, that is normal depending upon the present network conditions. Only when there is very less network congestion in your area and if you get better signals, you may get 10 - 15 kBps.
