nitinmukesh123 11 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 Hi All, One of my friend noticed day before yesterday that 5 online transactions have been made using his Credit card. He had never lost his credit card nor used it online other then using it for purchasing hosting from servage.net. He immediately ask the CC to block the credit card but the time they blocked it 5 transactions of Rs 2499 have been made. He even received SMS which stated "Thank you for using your HDFC Bank credit card for 2499.00 in INDIAIDEAS.COM LIMITED@27-Apr-2008 05:38 PM". For now he has faxed the details to HDFC. Had anyone faced such problem (credit card fraud) before. If so what could be done, where all can the complaint be filed.
kshah 452 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 Good CC usage practices: 1. Never book airline tickets where they ask your all details on phone along with CVV. 2. Always remember CVV / write down CVV at specific place and erase CVV from CC. 3. Do not use credit cards at un reputed places. Now a days there are hardware available which intercept communications between terminal and server and creates fake cards online. This was very common in bangkok and malaysia. Recently in CHennai and Kolkotta such hardware were caught with few tens of cards. 4. My another policy, I have kept one card with limit of 20K, which I use for online transactions and most transactions (So fraud is limited to 20K). This was advised to me by a person who is in citibank credit card division. I keep this card in wallet on routine days. 5. Never ever disclose PIN to your card to even your spouse. Never if you get SMS from your spouse mobile. Think, you will find reasons.

commonman 228 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 Some CC providers allow the facility of deactivating online transaction option. If you have more than one card, you can deactivate online option for all except one. This minimise the risk to that extent.
kshah 452 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 My reason for mentioning "Do not disclose PIN to spouse" Think of a situation where you lost your handset along with your CC and your spouse get SMS that gimme PIN for particular CC as I need to withdraw cash and she SMS PIN. Honest 836 Report post Posted April 29, 2008 ^^^ Yes my dear friends, Kshah is correct. We should use credit card for online transactions with a particular limit. This will be the best as the risk in this case is limited upto certain amount only. Regards.
