Mobile Alerts For New Email Messages - Microsoft

Recommended Posts

Until last week I was receiving mobile alerts for new email messages received in my Hotmail accounts through Reliance Prepaid and Postpaid connections. These were received as SMS messages. If I wanted to see the full message or reply to them, Reliance was charging Rs 2/- per SMS. Incoming was gratis, of course. However, these messages stopped coming from last week. When I contact technical support of Microsoft, they quickly 'passed the buck' to the mobile service provider, namely, Reliance. I called up Reliance in Mumbai and after a long wait (15 minutes, at least as I did not time the wait) a customer service executive came on the line and told me they had no such mobile alert service. . I told him I was subscribed to such a service and requested him to the technical support please to resolve the issue. Nope. The call was disconnected politely but without a resolution.

My question to the forum members is: how to get over the glitch. Friends who have Vodafone, Tata Indicom and Airtel connections are not facing this problem. On trying to re-register for the service, a screen with a box to type in the four-digit confirmation code appeared. However, since I did not receive the code on my mobile, I could not respond. That is where it stands. Please help with any suggestions. Thanks. R. Chandrasekhar.

Is there any way we can reach their technical support team in Bombay to apprise them of the problem? Is there any solution, you can think of?

Dear Friends

Will any one help in this matter? My queries to both RIM and Microsoft have fallen on deaf ears, it seems! Is there a way out? Thanks. R. Chandrasekhar.

This is a copy of their terms. It states that we will be charged Rs 1 per alert received and on the other side it is saying sms recd is free. Its a contradictory statement. Could any of the users elaborate, what exactly is the situation, before I start this service...

Dear Friend,

I am not able to find the line that you will be charged Rs.1 per alert received. Please find below the pricing details. Earlier I have used this service both in pre-paid and post-paid and I have not been charged. Hope it is the same now and incoming alerts is FULLY FREE.

Cool its active again. I just registered.

I have used the mail sms alerts in the past and they were free back then. Also I did not see the 1 re. charge mentioned in my T&C.

This is confusing. Although I have a very very old hotmail account. I had certain privileges in my account including ability to access emails from Outlook Express when most new users were not allowed (of course before Windows Live Mail came).

Here is the TOS that I see

"Pricing and terms of use

I also copied and only pasted. I don't know how this confusion. Again I have checked and it doesn't show any charge for incoming alerts. I am using 2008 version. Please others also check and confirm. Because due to this confusion we should not miss this very useful and effective service

* Windows Live Alerts does not charge for sending alerts to your mobile device; however, your mobile service provider may charge for every text message you receive, including alerts, and may also charge you each time you reply to an alert.
