Lil' Pug Brings Trouble To Vodafone

CHENNAI: A spokesman of mobile telephony major Vodafone on Friday denied charges of cruelty to its mascot pug. The charges had been levelled by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI).

"It is clear from the filming that the dog could not have been subjected to any cruelty during the filming," a Vodafone spokesman said.

In its notice sent to Vodafone April 25, AWBI said: "The pet dog was made to run, gallop and chase the school van for a long time on a public road. Thereby, the dog was made to undergo severe pain and suffering due to the exhaustion caused by chasing (the bus)."

Officials in Nirvana Films, which had made the ad for Vodafone, said: "The AWBI is unaware of modern techniques of filmmaking. No single shot of a television commercial lasts more than 15 seconds at the most. Therefore, to suggest that the dog suffered due to exhaustion by chasing a bus is taking things a bit too far."

R. Kumar, an established television commercial maker here, said the truth could be established if the original canned shots were to be analysed scientifically.

"On the basis of experience, I can say that most filmmakers do not take a shot lasting more than 10 seconds - be it a television commercial, or a feature film.

"The truth can be established beyond doubt by submission of canned shots for analysis. Techniques of carbon dating and forensics can find out the periodicity of the shots, the time taken between the breaks thereby clearly judge whether the animal in question was exhausted or not."

The pug, Rocky - the mascot of Vodafone and its earlier avatar Hutch - was certified fit by a veterinary doctor after the filming was completed several weeks ago in South Africa, Nirvana Films' counsel B. Menon said.

"We have sought time from AWBI to explain the issue in person and are hopeful for an early meeting for resolution of this matter," a Vodafone spokesman added

Well,

I heard the big debate on times now with some guy from PeTA looking very awkward, dogding questions as ppl from the ad world kept ridiculing him.

The arguments led by the chairman of AWBI and this PeTA character was that post shoot approvals were not taken and beauracratic rules not followed..

Hardly anything about their feelings as animal lovers. There arguments went on by saying that animals are not natural performers.

Earlier too they had issued a notice to a bangalore based ad agency who had feautured a chick in the ad, objection being it was forced to perform. Great!! a small lil chick following human instructions!

PETA and AWBI chaps don't seem to have any work ...

Arun if you are reading this post .. .please add a disclaimer on the front page of rimweb.in saying " No animals were harmed in desiging and maintaining this website. " for all you know - suddenly they might pounce here saying that some random color on the webpage is actually some animal bs !

awww ... where are we headed .!

Many festivals are going on in India which KILL the animals VERY CRUELLY :angry: Ask them to shut their a$$ and stop those things,rather than exploiting the popularity of the Vodafone ad :angry:

Anyways, tell me were they able to ban circus shows.

I don't understand this, not only in India but abroad too PeTA has done it with having hordes of ppl protesting in bare skin..

Ok understood that they do it cause animals don wear clothes, but what are they trying to convey by looking like an animal !

Its so silly that ppl like rakhi sawant paint themselves up and get locked up in a cage to emphasise the topic on tiger extinction.. The ppl at PeTA feel its another feather on their cap, rather she's just plain happy with the added publicity. (the bhaand that she is..)

Do the poachers really care about these sights PeTA brings them? The buyers in the social circle only stop wearing cause they fear a public or a media lashing..

Very few ppl actually care about these things cause PeTA tends to over-publicize the cause.

(My observations could be wrong.. Just trying to seek answers)
