Hard Reset

Recommended Posts

Just bought HTC S720. I had I MATE Kjam (GSM) earlier. It had a way to hard reset the phone. But in this phone I did not find any keys for hard reset. By a hard reset I mean all the data deleted, all customisation restored to factory, all PIMs lost, all installed programmes removed. there is only one option of 'clear storage' but I think it will be a soft reset only. Can someone please tell me a way of how to hard reset this device? Also that after a hard reset will the Reliance system files need to be installed again or will install automatically on boot?

In the usual HTC Phones, Hard Reset is usually done by pressing the Left and Right Soft Keys and the Reset Button, all 3 together. If it is original Reliance Enabled Phone by HTC India, then all Reliance System Settings will automatically reload from the extended ROM during the boot up. This is usually mentioned in the users manual that you must have got with the phone.

But I think in the case of S720 there is no physical reset button, so you will have to go to start-accessories-clear storage and follow instructions thereafter to restore phone to factory settings (i.e. is known as hard reset).

If that doesnt do it then remove the battery for 30 seconds, then reinsert. Then restart (power on) the phone holding the left and right soft keys simultaneously. Follow any on screen instructions.

I think that should do the trick.

Kindly try it and let us know if this was successful....

Thanks for immediate reply. But before I do that, i need to first install a back up program so that if there is any problem with the hard reset I can redo my set to the existing condition. Can you kindly suggest some dependable back up software for this phone (OS windows standard 6.0)

There is no such program for restoring phone to existing condition but let me assure you, if it is a Reliance enabled original HTC India phone, there will be NO problem with hard reset except that your data that you have entered after purchasing the phone which will be erased.

For backing up contacts, use active sync 4.5 or higher which must have come on your CD (or you can download it free from microsoft site- google it) to back up your contacts to Outlook, from where you can always restore it to your phone after hard reset.

For your other data/programs that you have loaded, you can backup to your memory card.

For SMS's etc you will have to use a dedicated backup program like PIM Backup, for which you will have to search this forum (there is thread running: Softwares for s720 - search it) . But I am not too sure whether PIm Backup is compatible with your model of smartphone. You can use Jeyo mobile companion for that - link in that forum.

Got this from HTC site. I put it for benefit of other users:

There are two methods to performing a hard reset.

Select Start > Accessories > Clear Storage. Enter 1234 where prompted and select YES.

Power the device off. Press and hold the left and right soft keys. Power the device on while holding these keys. Follow the on-screen prompts to factory reset the device.

For backup the entire phone I am using sprite backup
