Given that you're carrying your mobile phone with you. To help consumers stay connected in the Laccadives, telecom operator Airtel has announced it will offer mobile services there -- with effect from August 15, 2008. Initially Airtel will provide both prepaid and postpaid services in three islands viz Kavaratti, Agatti, and Bangaram. For this purpose, Airtel has set up two towers in Kavaratti, and one each in Agatti and Bangaram. This independence day onwards, the entire population of these three islands will be able to avail Airtel mobile services. The service tariffs will be Re 1 per minute for local calls and Rs 1.50 per minute for STD calls across Airtel networks. Anytime, anywhere Airtel Easy Charge will be available at over 50 retail outlets across Lakshwadeep. Customer care services will be made available on number 121.
