ami1 237 Report post Posted November 20, 2008 Flash Player for Palm Treo: There's a flash player for Palm OS which works quite nicely on my treo 755p. Seems to have been ported from the Flash Player for Sony Clie. Attached below. flashInstaller.zip Also attached are some SWF games and a HP scientific Calculator which work in this. palm_swf_games_etc.zip All SWFs have to be copied to /PALM/Programs/MMFLASH (create the folder if its not there) If flash player shows 'loading...' for more than a few seconds press menu button and select Mid or Low resolution instead of High resolution. While most SWFs from the web will work, if its too CPU intensive then it'll take too long to load/run. Does anyone know how to get this to render flash in opera mini or blazer ? Mufaddal 678 Report post Posted November 20, 2008 @amione first off sony clies come with pre installled macro media 5 flash .....but i guess access power hasnt put in on treo.......using certain hacks u can install the macromedia flash files of sony clie on ur treo.....but its quite unstable....u can play swf files for ur second problem.....firstly opera mini doesnt support flash...so it doesnt matter u have flash installed or not if u wanna use opera mini secondly as far as blazr is concerned dude it is very backward in terms of a browser ......the development has been long stopped.....i dont think that u can successfully run flash on blazer as several signature files and database files rmissing which can got if palm decides to upgrade the os..... i guess u will have to wait for palm nova.....or else google is ur best frend search for some alternative
ami1 237 Report post Posted November 23, 2008 Thanks mufaddal. Have another query: I have a holux keychain GPS which i used successfully with Nokia 6265 by connecting over Bluetooth (serial profile) and using Google Maps. For Palm I found that there's a program called "where am i" which is able to connect over bluetooth to GPS and is then able to call Google Maps and show the current GPS position on it. However, it has a known limitation that it calls up the old version of Google Maps from ROM (1.2) and not the updated one which we install (for eg 2.0.2) Is there any way to overwrite the preinstalled ROM applications in Treo ? or any other way to get this app to call the new google maps. Thanks for taking out so much time to reply to my queries and also the Docs to Go 11 solution.
Mufaddal 678 Report post Posted November 23, 2008 (edited) @amione first off even if u upgrade to version 1.07 the rom has version 1.1.2 of google maps .......now if u download google maps using blazer it installs verision 2.02 on your device the prolem with version 2.02 is though it supports my locations feature but it has been deactivated by sprint thats coz sprint has a similar service and it wants its customers to use it in place of free google maps "my location" .....so thats y inspite of having google maps the my loaction feature doesnt work ....atleast not for me now even if u have version 2.02 u can use unistall manager and unintall it ....and u get back to version 1.1.2,,,( thats coz in palm applications which r in rom are nevr removed instead the updates r installed over the previous ones thats y when u uninstal version 2.02 u get back to version 1.1.2.....) so if u want to install version 1.2 do a google search and try to get a prc/pdb file of version 1.2 ( search in torrents) ...even i will try if i come across i will post it for u well here it is ....just try GoogleMaps.rar Edited November 23, 2008 by mufaddal_km
Harshal 11 Report post Posted November 24, 2008 Hey Amitabh, can you throw some more light on what you are trying to achieve. and how? I am thinking you have a GPS device that can communicate with Treo over BT. Then you are trying to use google maps to make Treo behave like a true GPS based maps device. If so, please give more info about the GPS device and your success with making it work.
Mufaddal 678 Report post Posted November 24, 2008 @harshal what he is trying to do is connect his gps device over bluettoth with treo so hat he can pin point himself on google maps as my location feature has been disabled on sprint roms ........ @amione though u r trying to get a connection with gps but it can never b used as a true gps device simply coz 1) u require data connection all the times for google maps as it downloads data ota 2) even if u locate ur self uisng gps still no navigation is available ......so if u r having nokia 6275 and if u have google maps on that with my loaction feature so better use it .....( there is a google navigator though for window mobile devices) ... 3) its difficult to get a third party navigation software for palm which wud work flawleesly here ......in fact i m not even braeking my head over gps thing in treo 755p
Mufaddal 678 Report post Posted November 24, 2008 flash Player for Palm Treo:There's a flash player for Palm OS which works quite nicely on my treo 755p.............. well since last few days i m trying to get you tube videos running on treo ......after reading thru certain forums a lot of people have been able to play you tube videos using third party support after doin my search i found out this gr8 player called kinoma its supposed to the complete soln for playing online videos when it comes to treos....it features an ibuilt flash player and it also gives u the capability to go to you tube site and play videos on ur device..... even core player supports you tube but i donno it is very buggy ......i tried so many times but it just fails after few secs it goes blank .... i have tried kinoma player and i was able to play you tube videos fine infact the sharpness was better than on mogul .....but there is a major problem with kinoma ...it requires to pay fot their latest version and only their latest versions support you tube or any online video sharing .....though i have solns from different sources but all of them r not proper ......it wud just play once and all other times it gives an error asking me to get a valid copy ........ i m still lookin for a perfectly working soln .....but at present i think only kionma player can play you tube videos perfectly fine on treo ...... ami1 237 Report post Posted November 24, 2008 @Harshal / Mufaddal GPS works with this treo as good as with the Nokia 6265. In nokia i was using a Holux GPS device (purchased from ebay for 4K - holux 1000). This GPS is matchbox sized device with a bluetooth connection which transfers data to the phone and interfaces with google maps or mgmaps (mgmaps.com) Initially, there were 2 problems with Treo: 1. I was unable to connect treo to holux which uses BT serial port profile. 2. Google Maps for Palm doesn't have any menu option for connecting to BT GPS device. On googling i found that there is a software called WAI (where am i) - attached below or can be downloaded from mytreo.net/downloads/where-am-i,1172.html or http://wfmh.org.pl/carlos/ whereami_1.9_for_google_maps_gps.zip This app is able to connect Palm/Treo to holux or other GPS devices over bluetooth SPP and then it runs google maps and shows current position on the map in real time (as in nokia 6265). In both Nokia 6265 as well as Treo 755p there is no turn by turn navigation etc. But once you can see the roads and your own position you can easily navigate. The requirement of internet connection has never been a problem as after connecting to rconnect/rworld I use google maps extensively in map as well as satellite view (for quite extended durations w/o treo going into dormant mode and not waking up etc.) * In case you don't have a GPS device & still want to try WAI out then you can select 'mimic gps' option and it will generate a random lat-long for current gps location. Then select 'show my location in googlemaps' and it will run googlemaps and show this position on googlemaps. Pl. note that many times random lat-longs will be over the ocean so you will have to zoom out 5-6 times otherwise all you'll see is blue background. My only minor problem has been that WAI always runs the old googlemaps which comes preinstalled in the sprint ROM. As per WAI FAQ, it can only call the ROM version. The my location feature in some phones I think is tower based and not accurate as it can only triangulate to 0.5-1 km accuracy while most GPS devices incl the holux i have even show on which side of the road i am (if you're zoomed in fully) Hope that helps. Mufaddal 678 Report post Posted November 24, 2008 (edited) to cut it short it simply means that u r getting my location feature of google maps with "where am i "......pointing ur location on google maps using data connection. for maps and holux device for gps i know u can do certain navigation by knowing ur location ....,,but one thing i dont like about google maps is it loads a lot of data over net ......it is too much to pay for to simply get elementary naigation( though a good option for people having unlimited netconnect) i still prefer a navigation s/w with maps preloaded so that u dont have to shell out for navigation.......this is y i love my mogul and n95 i get all navigation and maps everythin without ever goin online ........the problem with treo755 is that there r very few navigation s/ws available and they have no coverage for india.....and as it is sprint has its own navigation services....... i guess in this case treo800w is better with gps and windows mobile there r a lot of navigation s/ws available .....again lucky tata customers Edited November 24, 2008 by mufaddal_km
