Aksh Optifibres Launches Iptv Without Broadband Connection

NEW DELHI: Akash Optifibres, manufacturer of cable and optical fibres on Monday launched country's first Internet Protocol Television without any broadband connection in association with state-run telecom firm MTNL.

Akash, under the brand name of 'icontrol' would start its service in Mumbai and Delhi, where MTNL has a strong base.

The company would provide more than 100 channels to its subscribers including popular channels from Star and Sony group and sports channels from Neo and Ten Sports.

In 'icontrol', a viewer could also enjoy the facility of 'Time Shift TV' -- which would allow him to view his popular TV soaps and programmers as per his convenience. He could also review past week's telecast.

In addition to that Akash would also provide facilities of video on demand and has put around 200 movies for this. The company is planning to invest approximately Rs 148 crore in its services business on IPTV and VoIP platforms is adopting a 360 degree approach in promoting icontrol in these two cities.

IPTV is a system where a digital television service is delivered using Internet Protocol through a network infrastructure, mostly delivered through a broadband Internet connection.

Is Aksh working with mtnl for this venture or any other partner in mumbai..

it will certainly be intersting to see the battle as the market leader and the one with the biggest subscriber base in landline i.e. mtnl has terrific infrastructure and cost advantage.

Now icontrol in Jaipur

BSNL and Aksh Optifibre have announced the launch of icontrol, an IPTV service, in the Pink City of Jaipur. This announcement comes a month after its launch in Mumbai and Delhi. icontrol will be the first IPTV service in Rajasthan state.

icontrol is a television connection that allows users to watch programmes at their convenience. This means that users will receive a programme when they put in a request for it. The service claims to offer more than 120 channels, and an extensive movie library consisting of Hollywood and Bollywood titles at no extra cost.

In addition, the service also has A-Tube-Video Classified pages feature that offers users solutions to day-to-day requirements from lifestyle, to travel, and includes restaurants, schools, beauty parlors, even plumbers!

The icontrol service in Jaipur is priced at Rs 150 per month for BSNL Broadband subscribers. The set-up box will be provided for free against a refundable security deposit of Rs 999.

Soft launch of IPTV service in Jaipur

On 4/8/2008, IPTV service is launched by the CGMT Rajasthan Sh. G.K.Agarwal.

With this Jaipur has become 4th city in the country where this service is available. The service is made available through the franchisee M/s Aksh Optifiber Limited.

Some of the features of the service are:

• 120 TV channels including all popular channels.

• Time shift TV

• Video On Demand

During the soft launch the service is activated on few service numbers and to some of the senior officers in State and Central Government. It is planned to make the service commercially available to the customers by the end of this month.

IPTV: iControl Now in Rural Rajasthan

BSNL and Aksh Optifibre have announced the launch of iControl in Kukus village of Jaipur district, in what is touted to be the first-ever IPTV service in rural India.

After catering to some big cities, BSNL and Aksh Optifibre have shifted focus to rural areas with their IPTV brand, iControl. The duo has now announced the launch of the service in Kukus village of Jaipur district. This is touted to be the first-ever IPTV to be launched in rural India.

iControl is a television connection that allows the viewer to watch the programmes at their convenience with more than 120 channels, and offers an extensive movie library with Hollywood and Bollywood titles at no extra cost.

The iControl service will be priced at Rs. 150 per month offering channels from STAR, Sony, NEO, TEN Sports and others. Subscribers will be provided with a setup box for free against a fully refundable security deposit of Rs. 999.

Simultaneously, Aksh also announced the commercial launch of iControl in Jaipur, Rajasthan, which was originally announced for the city at the start of this month. Subsequently, it will also be launched in other cities of Rajasthan in about 6 to 8 weeks time. At the moment, iControl is also present in Delhi and Mumbai.

Further, BSNL plan to expand IPTV to nearly 100 cities by this year-end. In addition, other value-added services like Video Telephony, VoIP etc. are likely to be introduced soon.

BSNL IPTv is useless... they dont even have major channels like HBO!!!

I was tempted to take it, before we went in for Tata Sky... esp. since the rental is qttractive, when clubbed with your landline phone. And also IPTv has cool features that DTH lacks. I spoke to someone in charge... and was promised that HBO and other major channels would be added in the next 1 to 2 months max! That was more than 8 months ago... LIARS!!!

the biggest lack of the service is that its of BSNL . . . useless or probably they dont have the concept of customer care or they dont understand customer . . .

well till now havent seen ne1 using the iptv . . . i doubt that is there any subscriber of IPTV . . . i asked the bsnl office guys abt the customers that is there ne1 . . they said atleast they dont know . . .! :lol:
