BT Offers Fixed-Mobile Convergence Solution in Asia Pacific

British Telecom (BT) is launching a corporate fixed-mobile service through its Asia Pacific subsidiary. Markets in the region for the initial launch include Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and South Korea.

"We are delighted to be the first provider of the fixed-mobile convergence corporate solution for the Asia Pacific markets. The solution has enriched our offering in Asia Pacific and enhanced our position as one of the leading convergence communication service providers," said Nathan Bell, Portfolio & Parnership, BT Asia Pacific. "BT Corporate Fusion will not only allow our customers to experience productivity gain, but will also enable them to streamline their infrastructure, simplifying management of communications within the organization and with outside contacts."

BT Asia Pacific is building on the work of the UK team and customizing BT Corporate Fusion for the Asia Pacific markets heeding the specific standards and needs of the region. The completely client-based solution supports both GSM and CDMA settings and is PABX vendor and mobile operator agnostic, meaning that it is not tied to any specific manufacturers' mobile handset models.

End-users can use existing phones as long as they are BT Corporate Fusion-compliant and companies do not have to invest heavily in equipment and related set up or manage handset inventory. Using prevailing Wi-Fi technologies to interface with the fixed network and with WAP/GPRS/Bluetooth/Wi-Fi to regularly keep the handset clients up to date, BT Corporate Fusion promises fast and seamless communication support to end-users, with minimal user disruptions."

The rollout schedule of the BT Corporate Fusion has it ready for Wi-Fi access within the next six months. BT's Dalian Technology and Service Centre will provide helpdesk support to address end-user enquiries in Asia Pacific. Second and third level support will also be provided in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. BT's Research and Innovation Lab located there will continue to enhance existing technologies, adding new features, as well as testing new handsets introduced by different handset makers.
