HetalDP 947 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 As per the Latest News TATA Indicom have Announced to Apply 3G-GSM Band (WCDMA / HSDPA) band as per the 3G Guideline any Operator is allowed to Apply for Only One 3G Band in Any Technology, that means TATA if goes for 3G GSM Band it can not apply for Dedicated EVDO for Mobile Telephony and TATA can not Force CDMA 1x to EVDO as Current Users All Handset must have to be changed to EVDO. This Definaely means TATA Exiting CDMA for 3G Band. This is also Golden Chance for Reliance to Go Directly in 3G GSM and not Opting for EVDO. I clearly see the Picture that EVDO will be remote Dream for us and for all Person who are Getting Handset from USA like HTC Touch or HTC Mogul that Handset will never run on EVDO as we dont have Access to A-Key Authentication method. Honest 836 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 ^^^ That means we should not dream for EVDO even with Reliance CDMA my dear friends. Regards.
kshah 452 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 I think that CDMA operators themselves may not be insterested in providing EVDO because they have to subsidize handsets too in CDMA. I will be happy if CDMA dies sooner because such protected, monopolistic technology is no good for users. We all have wasted so much of money and time in making handset to use where as most GSM users spend time on modding handset for better performance.
KumaarShah 143 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 But then, don't despair as yet. BSNL is still there and so will Shyam-Sistema also be. Maybe these two will offer EVDO.
raccoon 53 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 But if the CDMA market shrinks like this... it will eventually die! Also, not many handset vendours will bring out good and varied handsets for a shrinking market...
Honest 836 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 But then, don't despair as yet. BSNL is still there and so will Shyam-Sistema also be. Maybe these two will offer EVDO. ^^^ Hope that MTNL too will provide EVDO to its customers my dear friends. Regards.
HetalDP 947 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 But then, don't despair as yet. BSNL is still there and so will Shyam-Sistema also be. Maybe these two will offer EVDO. Yes as per the Latest Information BSNL is also going to offer EVDO for Mobile Telephony it will be only for Broadband Card and Internet Access and for Wireless in Local loop. EVDO can not be clonned as AKey is Hidden for Forget that Sexy Handset to get it done and actvated on the Network we have I and kalpak have tried to Activate BSNL EVDO on HTC MOgul and Touch and we have Failed as we dont have AKey of our Service
HetalDP 947 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 But if the CDMA market shrinks like this... it will eventually die! Also, not many handset vendours will bring out good and varied handsets for a shrinking market... Its only HTC which is still loyal to Qualcomm Chipset as All Handsets from HTC GSM or CDMA are Built on Qualcomm chipset only also Latest HTC Diamond is also Built on Qualcomm 7201 chipset. No other Manufacturer like Nokia, SE, Samsung, Apple, Google are not Interested in CDMA at all.
HetalDP 947 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 Shyam-system is already in race for GSM Spectrum and Applied for GSM Licence, and also Thinks that is Shyam is going to Bid for 4000 Cr Whole India EVDO Licence and then Invest 15000 for Completing Full Installtion to meet 1.5 year 3g Rollout Obligation
@ksh@T 20 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 well thats indeed quite sad news if tata has left hopes then what to expect from reliance and as if there is rule that one can use 3g on only one technology then what will BSNL and MTNL do they will use 3G on gsm not cdma
kshah 452 Report post Posted August 12, 2008 Death of technology is difficult but reliance and tata contributed a lot to make CDMA a noticeable technology (largest CDMA operator VERIZON has only 6 crore subscribers). But Qualcomm remain stuck to its monopolistic business model, where it ask for 5-10% royalty on handset price. I dont understand, why should they bother about handset price? China unicom has been struggling since last so many years to make CDMA as open as GSM but some how they too have not succeded and eventually left CDMA as only data phones. They advertise in china as surf CDMA, talk GSM, that is the reason why there are so many chinese CDMA + GSM handsets. BSNL will surely offer EVDO as DATA ONLY connections with probably limited roaming. Unless CDMA becomes open standard like GSM where all handset programming is done like GSM once user insert its SIM / RUIM, CDMA can not grow. Frankly I will be happiest person to see monopolistic technology dying, doesn't matter how superior that technology may be.
HetalDP 947 Report post Posted August 12, 2008 Its end of superior Monopoly also. GSM is the Standard of 1992 and Upgraded to 2001 GPRS, 2003 EDGE SMS 2.0 and Major Addons but still the TDMA Technology is not Efficeint But when it comes to HSDPA in 3G-GSM its although Better then EVDO in Some Paremeter like Video Telephony Open Standard Already Universally Implement IMEI and IMSI which far Better then ESN (Already Exhausted for Major Operator) and MEID 100 High Quality, Open, Unlocked Handsets compared to 1 Locked, Knockdown Stripped Version Handset in CDMA Better MMS, Open Standard Push Email compared to only Blackberry Push mail on EVDO SMS 2.0, Long SMS, EMS which will be never Implemented ever in CDMA Thanks to Qualcomm Orthodox Views. Qualcomm Chipsets dont allow SMS using AT Command, 100% GSM Supports is Qualcomm Chipset never Bothered for GSM AT Command Version 2.0 for Better Handset and PC Sync Capability in Single Standard. Till now we are only Happy with Better CDMA Data capability and Spectrum Efficiency, But We got Data on CDMA Phone in India when Nokia 6265 in year 2006. then What is the use of Better Technology if its not Open or available on time ripped for it ???? We are Dreaming for EVDO and Reliance is Still happy with Bhajiwala, Dhoodhwala Rs. 800 Phones then what is the use of that f**king Spectrum Efficiency and Technology. In GSM we get 4 to 6 six Roaming Network so we are never in Black Zones liike CDMA where there is not Roaming Partners. In World Roaming CDMA EVDO data Device Become a Paper Wieght as Except USA, Canada its useless. Only Benefit left with Reliane is Less Congested Network only till 3G comes. GSM 3G will be in 2100 and EVDO will be in 800 means There will be 3 Tower agains 1 in CDMA means Three time more Subscriber can be Hooked on 2100 Mhz compared to EVDO or 3 time more Bandwidth means 7.2 Mbps Speed can be achived if not capped by Operator. OFDM / MIMO a 3.5G / 4G Technology is ready only for HSDPA and not for EVDO. nVidia and ATI Mobile Chipsets for Graphics is only made available to GSM in CDMA Qualcomm is still happy with their ( Baba Jamana) Graphics Chipset which is still fighting for Drivers. Google Android Ver 3.0 / Symbian 9.0 / Linux will only be available for GSM There are many Chipset / Processor Manufacture in GSM like Infineon, Samsung, OMAP, Texas Instrument, Intel, Marvell, Nokia, nVidia, ATI from AMD And There is only One Chipset and Processor Manufacturer for CDMA which is Qualcomm
kshah 452 Report post Posted August 12, 2008 All above superiority of GSM is because GSM technology is developed and thrown open by society and not company. Also europe has better ways of managing technology than US. BTW, very good observations hetal. I am anxiously waiting for CDMA to die if they do not open up. csmart 472 Report post Posted August 12, 2008 its not only handset, qualcom charges royalty on equipments also. they do not charge any royalty on handsets sold in US. Qualcom's entire income is based on such royalties. if they stop royalties, then their stock price will suffer and they will not be able to make more money. Further, nokia is also reducing their CDMA output because royalty. they tried a lot to reduce or minimize the royalty. Qualcom CEO had visited India, abt 2 years ago or so, to request Tata & Rcom not to migrate to GSM.
