Mukesh Ambani Enters Asia's Power 25 List

Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani has been ranked 13 in Asia's Power 25 list of 'The Most Powerful People in Business', published in the August 9, 2004 issue of the Fortune magazine.

This year India has three corporate chieftains in the 2004 Asia's Power 25 list as compared to only one last year. Besides Mukesh Ambani, the other Indians in this prestigious list are Azim Premji of Wipro at No. 10 and Nandan Nilekani of Infosys who ranked 23.

'Our picks are magnets to be watched,' writes Fortune in its second annual list of the world's most powerful people in business. Fortune states, 'India, too, is spawning powerful moguls. With a racing economy, a highly skilled technical workforce, and the ability to easily export goods and services to the rest of the English-speaking world, India is coming into its own.'

India's Mukesh Ambani at 48 is the third youngest in Asia's Power 25 list. He is also the youngest amongst the three Indians to feature in this list.

China's Levin Zhu of China International Capital Corporation (ranked 15) is the youngest at 45 in Fortune's Asia's Power 25 list, followed by Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud from Saudi Arabia of Kingdom Holdings (ranked 7) at 47.

In the field of petrochemicals, Mukesh Ambani is the only powerful business leader from the world to feature in Fortune's power list. In the field of energy, Ambani shares the honor with Asia's Chen Geng of China National Petroleum, U.S.'s Lee Raymond of Exxon Mobil and, Europe's John Browne of BP and Thierry Desmarest of Total.

In telecom, Ambani is in league with Asia's Li Ka-Shing of Hutchison Whampoa and Zhang Ligui of China Mobile, U.S.'s Ivan Seidenberg of Verizon and, Europe's Arun Sarin of Vodafone.

In the recent past, Mukesh Ambani has been conferred the 'Asia Society Leadership Award' by the Asia Society, Washington D.C., USA. He ranked 33 among the 'Top 50 Most Respected Business Leaders of the World' in a survey conducted by Pricewaterhouse Coopers and published in Financial Times, London, leading the three Indian CEOs. The World Economic Forum, Switzerland, has lauded him with the title 'Global Leader for Tomorrow'. Ambani was also named in 'Time's roster of young leaders for the new millennium' in Time magazine.
