Asit 4 Report post Posted August 25, 2008 Punnetjee I read somewhere that the price is Rs. 21999/-. But not sure. And Kamalji, Aspire One is the new model from Acer launched in India recently.
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 @puneet I have just bought this Acer Aspire One. And I must tell you I am blown away by this small notebook. I bought it for 22900/- including bill and warranty from Nehru Place, Delhi. I am typing this right now from Aspire One only. It has got XP Home with SP3 preloaded. Only thing is that it does not have a Optical Drive, but the form factor and ease to carry, only 1 kg weight, 3 hours battery backup (with the original 3 cell battery) is fantastic. If possible you could upgrade to the 6 cell battery for 5-6 hrs backup, but the battery size of the 6 cell is bigger than the body and will extrude out and also I think it is not available in India yet. It has got 120GB hard disk and 1 GB RAM. It boots faster than my Core2Duo laptop. XP is full fledge with nothing cut short. It has 3 USB ports, 2 (yes 2) Card Readers, 1 for dedicated SD and 2nd is 6in1 types, Wi-Fi (fantastic range-more than my other laptop), LAN port, VGA out, Headphone and Mic ports, 8.9" ultra bright backlit TFT screen, Touchpad with left and right keys and scroll zones, Full keyboard (about 90% of normal size, but no problem typing). Also I think it can be upgraded to 3G in the future by a slot below the notebook. I love its dark blue color. Other options you may consider are MSI wind also available at nearly same price, but it has 80GB HDD. On the plus side it has 10" screen and bluetooth also. But form factor is slightly bulkier and Service Centres are an issue. Acer has Service Centre even in Meerut (thats why I bought this one)
Puneet 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 Thanks Kamal, Asit and Dhiraj. And thanks for the short review. @Dhiraj: How do you find the webcam quality for video chatting? Its available for AED 1899 here in UAE which is almost same, I was thinking of buying one for my father and if I do not get international warranty from here I would buy it from India itself. dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 The webcam though 0.3 MP, seems quite competent and clear (though not upto the 2MP marks), but it is not an issue at all. It is quite good to use in actual conditions and works wonderfully well in low light. But for your father, do keep in mind the compact designs, keys and screen, which older people do not like. Puneet 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 You don't know my father he is just amazed by new technology And these days he wants a laptop desperately though he has a functional desktop And in case he doesn't likes the small lappy I will give him my old Compaq and keep the "One" for self BTW, have you tried running Vista on One? Or do you intend to experiment? With 1GB of RAM it should work fine if you just disable the Aero theme.
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 (edited) I have just bought it yesterday yaar. But I have read on many forums that users are using it with Vista Ultimate even. And it works just fine. They use a dedicated SD Card memory to enhance RAM by the sharing feature of vista, that is why there are 2 Storage Expansion slots there on this UMPC. And anyways I dont like Vista. Edited August 26, 2008 by dkaile
Puneet 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 But I love Vista compared to XP I guess I will get the "One" here, experiment with it and then give it to father when I go home for Diwali BTW, is RAM expandable? Like is there a spare slot for putting in extra RAM or changing RAM to higher capacity by removing the installed one? EDIT: Ok got the reply in detailed specifications, has onboard 512 MB and one soDIMM slot which support 1GB.
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 (edited) I think the max capacity of the board is 1.5GB. There seems a slot below with 2 nuts but I think it is for the 3G thing. Not sure if it is user expandable or you have to go to Acer Service to expand. Edit: I opened the slot below. Its not for memory, seems for 3G think, nothings in it. So the memory is not user replaceable. Edited August 26, 2008 by dkaile
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 I have confirmed from Acer CC. It can be upgraded to Vista Ultimate with drivers from their website for Aspire 4710.
Honest 836 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 @Puneet My dear friend, hope the below mentioned news could be useful for you. Regards. Puneet 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2008 Thanks Sadik but I guess One will do for now . And I do not trust IBM since it went Lenovo . @Honest: These are the US prices, and do not reflect in the world prices somehow, hopefully Acer updates the prices worldwide soon. @mitJ@in 256 Report post Posted September 30, 2008 It is reallly nice at this price.... Dhiraj Ji - What is performance of ATOM Processor?? And what are other options available at this price in Compaq/Lenevo?
@mitJ@in 256 Report post Posted September 30, 2008 Is Acer slashing the price of Aspire One,,As Honest Post from Tech2 says that It will be available for Rs.15.5k??
Honest 836 Report post Posted September 30, 2008 ^^^ Yes my dear Amit, Acer could slash the prices here in India too. But still their is no confirmation. Regards.
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted October 3, 2008 @amitjain I am really amazed by the performance of the Atom Processor. After fully loading XP Prof SP3, it is booting faster than my Core2Duo Laptop. I donno how? It is a perfect replacement as a 2nd computer, because it does not have an optical drive. But I have also purchased my 2nd AAO for a friend at just Rs. 20,000/- for 120Gb Linux model and loaded XP Prof SP3. I also purchased an ENTER DVD Writer for 2800/- ultra slim model which operates from just One USB powered cable and is so small and thin. I think this is a perfect and cost effective packege, as of now. You could however go for the 160GB model, that I have suggested above also. I just today saw an adv of a Sony Vaio Model of 13.3 screen with 4 GB RAM and 250GB HDD for Rs. 1,26,000/- today. So you can well imagine how cost effective this small piece of **hit is... dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Read This month's PC World India - Aspire One has been chosen as the PICK OF THE MONTH (the best product as on date in India this month)
ssr 10 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 (edited) If someone donot like 8.9" screen they can look at netbooks with 10" screen like Eeepc 1000 or MSI wind 100U models(recommended to buy outside india Edited October 5, 2008 by ss_rakesh
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 (edited) But I tell u rakesh, I am using this netbook personally, the resolution of both these netbooks is the same whether 8.9" or 10.1" screen i.e. 1024x600 so it makes no difference... and the sharpness of the Acer screen has beaten both the MSI and Asus eePC (read all international forums). In fact I find it brighter and clearer to read than my 14.1" conventional notebook and my 19" LG TFT desktop... and the AAO is now available with a 160GB HDD (in comparison to their 80GB)... In the US and Canada, it is sold out at Walmart.... and selling like hotcakes.... If someone is coming from abroad, the pick wud be 160GB version with 6cell battery for just 399$ is just a steal in ALL WHITE (not yet available in India) Edited October 5, 2008 by dkaile
