Acer Aspire One

Recommended Posts

disturbance in Force B)

first of all I am not bothered about HDD space :) ,

It is completely personal opinion, both Asus and MSI has 8.9" versions, I am using MSI wind U100.

Most of the configurations of all the netbooks are same (except for battery power and screen)

display is clear than normal laptop screen because most of the netbooks use LED backlight screens,

If anyone planning to buy a cheap netbook(depends mainly in which country u buy :) ) they can refer to Rebadged versions of Wind (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSI_Wind_PC)

I heard Dell was coming out with a 3GB ram with 250GB HDD mini, but donno, if they will be able to price it right. This is just too affordable at 20K...

And there's no disturbance in the force mate... ;)

But buddy, we do have to keep in mind the service backup and warranty issues also.

Acer has service center in nook and corner of the country...

When I went to Nehru Place to pick up the notebook, the MSI distributor came to the shop, but nobody was ready to keep their goods due to lack of service. Same is the story with Asus in India... even though I was keen to have a dekko of MSI also...

And its better to buy Acer products from India rather then getting them from abroad for warranty issues. Aspire One purchased here (in UAE) is not warrantied in India :(

yes, if u want warranty buy in india :) .

I know abt service issues with MSI and Asus.

But It does not matter whether the service centers/showrooms are all around india or not, the quality of service at your place matters. Remeber nokia

I purchased my netbook from a local Sadik :) . so i need not have to deal with original ppl

1. Yes, these are all inclusive prices with bill and warranty.

2. No difference at all

3. Yes, even I did that only. I have installed XP Professional with SP3

4. Exactly, no sense giving 2300/- extra

No other difference, as far as I can tell. I have purchased 2 so far. First was XP model, then purchased for 22,900/- and 2nd Linux for 20,000/-.

Absolutely loving this netbook...

note that linux gives more batttery life than windows.

Well I never used Linux...And Windows XP is only the best for me..

BTW Dhiraj Ji-Do Vista Works??

look at the forms corresponding to the netbook for more os installation issues.

Vista will work but will be very slow, you may need to remove lot of OS garbage before u install it in a netbook. and forget about Aero look

I never used Linux earlier, There are some linux distros which are very easy to install(easier than windows :rofl_200: ) and configure

I installed Ubuntu without any issues, unlike windows all the drivers and software comes preinstalled with linux distros.

I donno about other netbooks, but Vista is working perfectly with Aspire One. All drivers are working and even Aero is working. Visit the Forum Link for aspireone I have given above and you will get all information about working with Vista.

Also as this notebook has 2 Memory Card Readers, you can use the 2nd SD Card Slot to permanently fix say e.g 8GB SD Card and use it for RAMboost feature to enhance Ram for Vista. It works perfectly as per forum members, though I havent tried personally, cause I like XP better...

SD Card can be used for RAM!!

Dhiraj Ji Any application for SD Card to be uesd as RAM or any settings in Windows??

It can be used as RAMBoost only in Windows Vista, not in Windows XP. If a SD Card or a USB drive meets the speed specification to be used as RAM Boos, Vista will give you an option to use it as RAM Booster.

He was saying it in contrast with the processors used in cellphones, and it wont withstand such heavy applications acc. to him.

Processors used in mobiles will have only instructions related to phones, like image video processing.

Processors used in laptops is almost similar to desktop but they are low power varients, donot confuse low power with the apps they can handle, low power means low voltage.

mobile processors(used in laptopts) are more power efficient than the desktop processors.

If you are worried about battery time of AAO I think u can get a third party high end battery for it.

Most of the ppl in shops donot know much of technicals and or they just cook something on the fly to sell to customer.

Write down your requirements and do your investigation on your own from friends and forms before buying.

the guy who told u that these laptops run on mobile phone processors must b such an idiot.......seriously these people have no technical knowledge ................these r completely diffrenet set of processors meant for laptop and the one meant for phones r completely different.....though in many cases a mobile phone ARM core can perform similar to an intel atom chipset

that said these laptops use an intel atom chipset which r very small in dimension and highly power efficient meaning now u save on battery power ...........and dont forget one thing this r ultra portable so it is obvious u will have to sacrifice something to attain a smaller size .........

Sorry for the late reply chum, didnt track this topic....

Anyways what that person has told u is a load of Bull.... I am using 2AAO's in the family, and believe me I am ready to dump my high end Core2Duo Notebook anyday for this work of art.... Its battery life easily lasts 3 hours on Windows XP Prof SP3 and 2.5 hours if u watch a movie. Thats as good as any other notebook. Another thing is that the 160 GB 6cell model is now available which will give u a battery life of 6 hours - now thats equivalent to the high end 1Lac noteboooks flying around....

It has got the latest Atom processor and and I am using it for general browsing, editing (word etc.), coreldraw 12, Autocad 2006, Photoshop 7. I have used all these programs without feeling a need to go back to my core2duo notebook. Though theoritically Atom processor is not recommended for high end graphics intensive applications, but I didnt feel much difference in performance.

If there's anything else.....

I just now inquired, AAO 120 GB is 19,950 and 160 GB is 20,950/- (Linux Models, both have 3 cell battery), The dealer (Acer Point, Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi) told me that he will get 6 cell batteries in a month or so, to be sold separately.

Also asked from Computer Empire, he says 20k for 120GB (Linux Model) and 22,400 for 160GB (XP Model-4 Cell Battery???) :)

Regards

Computer Empire - 26414645, 41808394, 41808488, 41617626 102/104 Meghdoot Bldg., 94 Nehru Place - Go to shop no. 104 for Laptops, though there so much rush, cant tell u whether he will answer phone queries, try anyways, but best price u will get when u reach there and tell him what rate u are getting, he is slightly prone to bargaining, specially for laptops----- I got for 20K on 23-9-08 120GB version, and prices are dropping everyday, and once u tell him rates u are getting, he will definately offer u better rates....

Also try Cost to Cost Computers, besides him at 106-107 Meghdoot Ph 26489193, 26280764
