@mitJ@in 256 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) Didnt buy yet. I am getting 160 GB 3 Cell Linux model in Rs.20,400/- And the shopkeeper will give in Rs.20k When I will go to actually purchase and bargain. Dhiraj Ji Is price Ok? And all shops are saying that 6 Cell dont come. Are they right? Edited November 17, 2008 by @mitJ@in
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) Yes, Price seems very good for 160GB and AFAIK 6 cell is not launched in India till date; only launched internationally; but somehow if u could get your hands on a White 160GB 6 cell - its beautifuuuuuul.... also give a dekko to Lenovo S10 but I think it will be at least 5000/- more and therefore no sense, but if it is only 1-2K more than it can be considered due to ease of replacement of hdd and memory, but otherwise AAO rocks.... @mitJ@in 256 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 Dhiraj Ji there are 3 4 articles in the File you gave. How to install xp from usb flash drive.doc Which to follow??
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) Sorry, Second one (from page 6 to 8 only)... the flash drive pre.zip file contains the files of that only... Also I needed to edit the boot.ini after install and remove one of the double paths, I dont exactly remember, it was something like this, so that it does not ask which version to boot into at startup, read that article fully- "You may also need to edit the boot.ini file manually if it doesn’t read something like ‘multi(o)disk(0)rdisk(o)partition(1)\Windows=”Windows XP Pro” /fastdetect’" Also before hand download all XP drivers from Acer Website... http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/noteb...as_one_150.html or here ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/netbook/aspire_one_110/ and install only suyin driver for webcam or better still do not install any driver for webcam as the default microsoft driver works perfectly (webcam driver is the only one which has some issues) Edited November 17, 2008 by dkaile
@mitJ@in 256 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 What is the use of SIM Card Holder behind Battery???
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 That hole is empty in the Indian models and is for installing a 3G modem as launched abroad, but in India it is useless and cannot be upgraded either as the 3G modem will require soldering onto the motherboard (unless of course you can do that) and there is no sign of 3G either for another 2 years (in any substantial way, at least)
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Ref to my earlier post # 115, after installation you will need to go into Control Panel-System-Advanced-Startup and Recovery-Settings-Default Operating System - and in this check that only ONE relevant system is selected and delete the other system that is booting by USB drive and then the problem of the boot-up screen popping on start-up will disappear... dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted November 21, 2008 @amit sorry was out of station, so coudn't reply... The procedure had to be followed carefully in the end and that is what I had suggested to you. I dont remember what exactly I had done, but was able to install it OK by the procedure given in that post that I have sent to you... Do let me know the exact problem and we will sort it out, maximum we will have to reinstall windows. Only thing is that the Windows Disk that you have, should have run successfully beforehand on other computers and that we had to copy on the USB flash drive... do give me a call in case of any difficulty... @mitJ@in 256 Report post Posted November 21, 2008 @dkaile How to install vista now? Vista over XP by copying setup into second partition?
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted November 21, 2008 Great to hear that.... and 160GB coming in Blue also?? .... or was it marked 120GB and the HDD turned out to be 160GB (as I have heard on many forums, that Acer is facing shortage of 120GB HDD and is shipping 160GB inside AAO's marked as 120GB, FOC of course...) I hope u like it, because yesterday I went to Great India Place and there the salesman was trying to push me the latest Sony Vaio that they are advertising instead of Acer but when I checked the prices it 74K for 1 model and 1,24,000 for the smaller Z series!!!!! Now isnt that cheap....
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted November 21, 2008 How to install vista now?Vista over XP by copying setup into second partition? Coudnt get you, Vista people have installed absolutely trouble free.... but I don not know the procedure... You can check it out here.... http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtop...f=38&t=4404 1) Download the Drivers << - click me 2) Download WLAN driver that works << - Click me too! 3) Download VLite << - Click me three 4) Make a VLITE Vista (here is a guide: http://www.msfn.org/board/Tutorial-Buil ... 14957.html ) 5) Insert your memory stick (4-8gb preferrably) 6) Format the memory stick to NTFS (use quick format, since we are lazy and dont bother with chkdisk) 7) Copy the VLite vista on to the memory stick 8) Press [windowsbutton] + [r] , so the run dialog opens. Enter "CMD" and press [enter] (no quotes around CMD of course!). 9) Now that you are in the command window, go to the memory stick.. Type f: , where f is your memorystick (you have to check this in "My Computer"). 10) Enter the "boot" folder by typing "cd boot" [enter] 11) let's make a bootsector Type "bootsect /nt60 f:" [enter] << IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO THIS ON THE MEMORYSTICK AND NOT A WRONG DRIVE! Now your memorystick is as good as it gets. So, let's copy over the drivers too. 12) Make a /src/ folder and extract the drivers there in logical folders. eg. like /src/wlan , etc. 13) Reboot the Aspire One and enter the BIOS (F2). 14) Deactivate "D2D Recovery" under "Main". 15) Set it up to boot from your memorystick 16) Choose exit and "exit saving changes". After you have installed Vista, you will have to: * Deactivate search indexing * Deactivate SWAP * Deactivate visual themes (you dont have to, but I did it) * Deactivate system restore I would not do this mod without atleast 1Gb ram, preferrably 1.5Gb (incl onboard). Why did I disable indexing, swap, etc? Well, SSD's have limited writing cycles.... One could also get a fast SD card and fit it in the left slot and enable swap for that card (so one never runs out of system memory).
