savramesh 37 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 Airtel most congested GSM network during Oct-Dec, says Trai Telecom service provider Bharti Airtel had the most congested GSM network during October- December 2008, followed closely by Vodafone, an analysis by sector regulator Trai has said. Among the mobile service providers, Bharti Airtel had the largest number of points of interconnection (POIs) with congestion during the period, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said. During the October-December 2008 period, Airtel had 14 POIs with congestion, while Vodafone was the second most congested network with 12 POIs, followed by Reliance Communications and Idea with 11 each, and Dishnet Wireless with eight. To ensure seamless inter-connection, TRAI monitors the level of congestion at the POIs among various service providers on a monthly basis. This parameter signifies the ease with which a customer of one network is able to communicate with a customer of another network. It also reflects as to how effective is the inter-connection between two networks. The benchmark notified by TRAI for this parameter is less than 0.5 percent. This means that out of 200 calls between two operators, only one call should face a congestion problem. During the period, the Cellular Mobile Telephone Subscriber base has increased from 315.31 million in September 2008 to 346.89 million in December 2008, while the number of POIs with congestion has decreased from 129 in September 2008 to 66 in December 2008. ACS 130 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) ^^^My dear friend, even I'm facing the delayed SMS receipt from Airtel networks now a days. Many times when I send a SMS to my friend who's having an Airtel Connection, it will be delivered very late, say by 3-4 hours late. LOL. Regards. Delayed SMS? Care for a few more.. 1) STD Calls from Rel do not reach Airtel phones 2) 1 SMS from Rel hits 3 times on 'Airtel Prepaid phones' in particular. The sad part is, that we are also charged thrice.. proven in bills. But i doubt that spectrum etc. is to be blamed here. Edited March 30, 2009 by ACS
savramesh 37 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 TRAI rates Tata Tele as least congested network Mobile service provider Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL) on Thursday said it has been rated as the operator with least congested network amongst all pan-India service providers in the quarterly analysis by telecom regulator TRAI. In the report for October-December 2008 quarter on congestion, TTSL recorded the least congested network with only two PoIs (Points of Interconnection) having congestion as against 14 of Airtel, 11 of Reliance and 12 of Vodafone, TTSL said in a statement. TTSL Chief Technology Officer AG Rao said: "This is the fourth consecutive time that the TRAI Report on 'Network Congestion' has rated us the best amongst all pan-India telecom operators. Our performance on this parameter highlights the various initiatives undertaken by us to continually conduct network planning, improvement and resource optimisation." To ensure seamless inter-connection, TRAI monitors the level of congestion at the PoIs among various service providers on a monthly basis. This parameter signifies the ease with which a customer of one network is able to communicate with a customer of another network. It also reflects that how effective the inter-connection is between two networks. The benchmark notified by TRAI for this parameter is less than 0.5 percent. srk006 21 Report post Posted July 7, 2009 Reliance, Idea have most congested networks: TRAI 7 Jul 2009, 2045 hrs IST, Joji Thomas Philip, ET Bureau NEW DELHI: The congestion in cellular networks has gone up in the first three months of the calendar year (January-March), an analysis by sector regulator Trai has revealed. The regulator said that Reliance Telecom, Reliance Communications and Idea Cellular have the most congested networks among private operators while Tata Teleservices had the least levels of congestion. The regulator, which monitors congestion on a monthly basis, has said that in as many as 76 places, the congestion levels were above the permissible limit during the quarter, when compared to only 66 such places in the previous quarter. Congestion levels have been steadily coming down and had fallen to an all-time low in Oct-Dec ‘08, when telcos’ networks were congested in only 66 places. Network congestion leads to call drops and deterioration in voice quality. Besides, this is also the primary reason why consumers have to make repeated calls to get through. The regulator tracks this by evaluating the congestion levels at the points of interconnection (PoI), which are places where mobile traffic is exchanged between the networks of different operators. Congestion level is one of the important parameters and signifies the ease by which a customer of one network is able to communicate with a customer of another network. The regulator has set a benchmark of less than 0.5% for this parameter. This means out of 200 calls between two operators, only one call should face the problem of congestion. Among private service providers as of March 2009, Reliance Telecom and Idea both have congestion in 18 PoIs each, followed by Reliance Communications (16 POIs) and Vodafone (11 POIs). The circles most affected due to PoI congestion are Bihar (13 PoIs), followed by Andhra Pradesh and Kolkata (8 PoIs each) Assam and Himachal Pradesh (7 PoIs each) and Mumbai (6 PoIs), Trai said in a statement. Bharti Airtel, which so far had the most congested network, has shown a rapid turnaround and now boasts of one of the lowest congestion levels, Trai’s report said. In fact, Bharti is now second behind only the Tatas, in terms of the least congested networks.
