Recommended Posts

gsmarena_000.jpg

As it seems HTC are prepping a WiMAX/GSM-enabled device - the HTC T8290 - to allow even more flexible wireless internet access. The new device is supposedly almost official as it has been presented at the WiMax World Conference in Chicago.

The htc pictured on these images is obviously made for the Russian WiMAX operator Yota. Having a portable WiMAX device seems even cooler in regions that have no 3G support - such as Russia in this cASE

NOT MUCH INFORMAATION IS AVAILABLE RITE NOW ABOUT WHETHER V WILL B HAVING THIS FOR THE OPEN MARKET ........

  • GSM+WiMax
  • 802.11g WiFi
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • clocks in at nearly 14 MBps

this also gives me a feeling that sprint has recently launched their xohm network and considering thisi device is wimax enabled ...........sprint might launch this device in distant future or will they skip touch hd and go for this ...........too early to say .....lets wait n see

Htc’s First Wimax Device! - Htc T8290

code-named HTC Quartz

o early yesterday evening I got a rather cryptic contact submission here on nedge2k.com regarding a new WiMax enabled HTC device. Needless to say, this had me pretty excited. This morning, I got the pictures and some info…so here it is!

What we have here is the "HTC T8290" (code-named HTC Quartz) and it is due out on the Russian WiMax network, Yota, very soon - so I’m told. Some specs as follows:

3.8" 800×480 WVGA LCD

GSM+WiMax

802.11g WiFi

Bluetooth 2.0

…yes, specs are a bit thin on the ground but I’m told to expect more info soon!

So what’s so good about WiMax? Well, think of it as having ADSL2+ on your phone! From the pictures, you can clearly see this thing is connecting at speeds around 14meg, impressive!

…pretty much what you’d expect from a new device - excluding the WiMax of course! Nice to see a decent camera included and, interestingly, the comeback of IrDa?

Can't stop drooling over the specifications of the phone? Unfortunately, the launch date is yet to be announced. The Max 4G has WiMAX, and it will be some time before it reaches India, as we all know the current state of 3G here. The only other alternative? Move to Russia.
