Help! Sos! My Friend On Merchant Navy Ship Need Urgent Help!

Recommended Posts

Guys my friend is in need of urgent help, his PC on merchant navy ship is corrupt and he cant format it.

Below is his mail to me.

Please suggest the solution as soon as possible.

Thanks.

Bhai have the following problem on an important computer onboard. Can you help or do you know anybody who could help urgently?

We cant format and load because we want the files and folder on the hard drive!

Sameer

Windows XP PRO SP2 registry was corrupted. We also had a virus I-Bagle on the c:

Computer was super slow, was crashing frequently, very slow connection to the internet using Internet Explorer. Would not let us install any anti virus or programs.

Used anti spyware program and fixed many problems/worms/trojans. But on re-boot they show up again.

Used Win Doctor 2006 to fix registry. It found many problems and fixed them. Re-Booted computer.

After that to remove old Norton anti virus and to install new antivirus program, we folllowed instructions to do it in 'safe mode'.

ran Safe Mode via -> Run ->msconfig ->Boot.ini ->Safe Mode and minimal drivers (as per instructions)

after that, Win XP Pro wont boot up. It kept booting up in Bios page asking if we want to boot up in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, normal mode, etc. No matter what option we select it keeps coming back (re-booting) with this same page.

Somebody had XP Pro CD. When we used that to start up, we tried two options of repair console and repairing existing XP set up.

In the case of Repair Console it asks for administrator password which we dont know.

In the case of repairing the Old XP set up, it diagnosed corrupt drivers and removed them. Then it re-installed correct drivers and re-booted up to the WinXP Pro symbol page.

Then Safe Mode screen comes up and the window opens saying 'CANNOT CONTINUE SET-UP IN SAFE MODE.CLICK OK. REMOVE ANY FLOPPY FROM A:. SET-UP SHALL CONTINUE AFTER RE-START'.

But nothing happens and it starts to re-install start-up drivers and repeats the procedure again. If I remove the XP CD then it goes back to the start-up option page of 'Safe Mode, Last known good config, normal moded, etc.'

It doesnt let us access the computer in SAFE MODE to make any changes or to turn SAFE MODE off.

ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED rather urgently.

I read on the internet that I can boot up existing Win Xp using Win98 start up floppy disc and then XP Pro CD. If you know how, can you email proper steps?

Sadikkbhai, just ask him to boot through win98 & run dos only,i.e. the option will be "Start computer with CDROM support...".

Then backup the required files into another partition by using dos commands, and reinstall XP. Better if he can delete the primary partition (C only) using fdisk, and then recreate that partition, and also update the MBR.

Install antivirus as soon as the setup complete, better will be quickheal, and run a system scan.

Hope it will solve his problem.

I would suggest downloading the trial of Kaspersky AV 2009 and running a scan using it.
