Google Empowers Android With Kill Switch

Apes Apple iPhone 3G

There was a lot of hue and cry when Apple's mysterious kill switch was revealed that could kill any application remotely on an iPhone 3G. It seems Google has also taken the inspiration and integrated the same kill switch in Android. Google, however, mentions it in Android Market's terms of service.

"Google may discover a product that violates the developer distribution agreement ... in such an instance, Google retains the right to remotely remove those applications from your device at its sole discretion."

Google's kill switch seems to be justified because the Android market is unmoderated and this is the only way to control flooding of bogus apps. Google also goes a step further in the 'kill app' process by trying to recover the amount from the original developer and return it to the buyer.

We all know the problems and concerns people had with apple's nda . Some developers were stunned and shocked to see their own apps either denied for inclusion or banned from the store following inclusion. It seemed Apple had them by the short and curlies, and they did…..... But at least they’ve opened things up a bit since the early days. The NDA was dropped, and developers can now share and discuss code, and work together to develop some killer apps. :GirandoOjos: i think android would be a truly ‘Open’ OS, and the applications developed would be cool and plentiful. store, and the killer switch in my opinion is a great idea… The only concern I have is I hope they use it smartly. Certainly a kill switch’s ultimate goal is to protect not only Google, but the valued users of their OS from inappropriate apps making their way onto devices.

Certainly it’s always ‘better safe than sorry’, and having this safeguard in place is a must-have in my opinion.

and now with the g1 devices reaching their impatient customers .....lets see how well does android fare ...and also lets see what betterment android market brings over app store

Its a bad monopolistic idea. Even symbian was open source. They have developer certification. Google too can introduce something on that line. they have such right if they take full responsibility to get refund. Somehow I smell fishy for google browser and android. Android do not appear any better than that of mac os x.

That way windows is the best.

kshah ji....even symbian was open source in the same way until few mnths back when symbian signed stopped issuing develpoers certificate for free....but people have come up with simple and alternative methods to open up ur symbian device to anything....

as far as android is concerned unlike apple they r not going to scrutinise the application before it makes upto the android market....so apple has the power to decide which applications go to app store...in case of android the developer can just post application on the android market ..so there has to b some sort of security measure by google.......

one thing that symbian doesnt have till today is a proper application store like apple or android the download applicatio is still poor ....
