Honest 836 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 @befriend_my My dear friend, you can also go for good quality chinese like handsets available with different Indian manufacturers like USHA. As they have proper IMEI number. And if you want typical Chinese Handset which are available in the market, then do not forget to check if it has proper IMEI number. Regards. bobbymots 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 (edited) Hi... If you wanna check mobiles for IMEI real numbers just remove the battery and check for a 15 digit number starting with 35... in the battery compartment. (It has to always start with 35) You can also type *#06# in standby mode to see the IMEI number on the display. High end China phones (touch screen) do have proper IMEI numbers, but then again you never know if duplicate IMEI number has been issued (i.e. an already used IMEI number) I am using a china touchscreen cdma+gsm phone CG6680 since last 7 months, have dropped it accidentally a couple of times and its still working all okay. It looks classy, high quality body with fantastic touchscreen experience and stereo speakers and can put Nokia to shame. China dual (gsm+cdma) phones are excellent multimedia phones but have some drawbacks only for CDMA as below. 1) Simple functions like bluetooth or setting a picture as wallpaper are only available on the menu list if a GSM sim is present in the handset. (I keep an old voadone sim in the GSM sim slot) 2) MMS, Internet, Call waiting, Call Diverts, record feature while on call, etc are only allocated to GSM sim card. These features are not available for CDMA sim. (probably they were not able to design a phone that can cater these features to both types of networks on a single handset - Not sure if its the same case with SPICE phones) I tested each and every functionality of the phone at the store for more than 30 minutes before buying it. Still it came up with one issue and I am living with it and it is; - If I send a standard length text message (less than 160 chars) say of 40 to 60 chars., the message goes out as a broken message and incomplete. - If anybody sends me a text lengthier than 40 chars or so, I receive it as a blank or a 3 to 4 chars message. (However, I can send and receive any length messages using my GSM number from the same phone. This can be an issue with only my phone or maybe with any CDMA+GSM dual phones) I'll be getting it reflashed to see if that solves the SMS issue. I am basically a Reliance user so if have to send text messages I have to stick to an 8 to 10 words messages. The problem is I might receive long messages and hence blank or a few chars. For eg. the message that Reliance sends each month for my bill that is generated comes as "Dear Cu" and thats it :-) If you wanna buy the dual (CDMA+GSM) china phone: - check all settings before you buy. put both sims and try calling, sending sms from CDMA to GSM(lengthy), bluetooth, etc.... - check the IMEI (*#06#) - Though mobile phones emit safe level of radiation, if its an unbranded phone and coming cheap you never know if radiation has been taken care of. Hence with china phones it is better to use handfree kit or bluetooth headphones (it works with bluetooth headphones - atleast my model does) Cheers Bobby Edited November 17, 2008 by bobbymots

bobbymots 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 (edited) Exactly............ Honest 836 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 My dear friends, now a days every second electronic equipment we purchase from the market is assembled at China, regardless to its brand. I don't see any harm in purchasing Chinese Handsets if the IMEI numbering is proper. And if their are still any doubts then my dear friends, just go for any BRANDED HANDSET with BILL and WARRANTY and have PEACE OF MIND. Regards.
hritik123 4 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 i have a dual gsm/cdma mobile which i bought which is showing proper imei number , and i can send sms of 160 characters from my cdma witout any probs
Honest 836 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 ^^^ Its good to hear from you my dear Hritik, that your dual sim handset has the proper IMEI number. As those mobiles which don't have proper IMEI number would going to be banned in India due to security reasons. Regards.

The battery would be a major problem, the one good thing in these chineese handsets are, once you pair a handset using blue tooth, then you can get into the paired handsets folders without even an alert on the paired handset, it would be like surfing your own handset, you can send all information from the paired handset to yours using this without any alert on it.
