Videocon Dth Service

Recommended Posts

Videocon Industries, a renowned electronic manufacturer in India, is all set to launch its own Direct-to-Home service in India. The service was to be launched in September, but last minute issues led this to be postponed till November.

Videocon, probably the largest moving television manufacturer in India, till the Korean giants came here, has still about 20-30% share in the TV market. The company is investing a whopping Rs. 1000 Cr. into this in colaboration with BBCL, Bharat Business Channel Ltd. The brand name has been given. The service will be known as D2H and the test signals are already underway.

The major players in the DTH service providers would be in for a tough time, because, Videocon is planning to sell the STB's at less that Rs 1000/- thus making this the cheapest available brand. Also, Videocon will be competing with DishTV, Tata sky, Sun Direct, DD Direct, BigTV Airtel Digital TV.

VIDEOCON's set-top box is a MPEG-4 digital satellite receiver with built-in IRDETO CAS system and Idway-J middleware. ARION Technology a Korean world-leading digital set-top box manufacturer, has participated in this project as one of the consortium members and provided their experienced HW and SW solutions to VIDEOCON. ARION's sales director said ARION will be able to secure stable incomes from royalty on VIDEOCON's set-top box sales in India market.

The number of Channels that is to be made available is believed to be around 240+ including radio channels. Also, unconfirmed reports are there that Internet would also be available for the subscribers, even though 2 way communication through LNB is not even heard off.

There would be seven packages in addition to regional packages. This would really increase the competition as mostly the consumers are more interested in getting channels of their choice.

The DTH would be made available through an Israeli Satellite that would ensure that the middle-east customers are also romped in.

Thanks Akshat

So for middle east indians, there is a hope to get more channels within one dish. Now for BIG tv and TATA sky dealers are charging a huge amount that will come around 13000/- indian rupees. We can bring the activated receiver from India and just install dish with LNB to get package from videocon???? I hope.......

Thanks

The Videocon Group has announced its plans to launch its DTH platform by October-end. Videocon claims it will invest Rs 1000 Crores in the venture over 2 years. The platform has been named "D2H" and will be launched by Videocon group company Bharat Business Channel Ltd.

6 Ku Band transponders have already been booked through SingTel. The company will use MPEG-4 compression and plans to deliver 200 channels from its 6 transponders. The MPEG-4 STBs will be manufactured by Videocon, from its Aurangabad plant. Irdeto will provide the encryption technology.

D2H is being headed by Anil Khera who was earlier in charge of Videocon's Sansui and Kelvinator brands. "We have taken six Ku-band transponders on SingTel's ST-1 satellite. We are investing Rs 10 billion over two years and are launching the DTH service by October-end," Khera is reported to have told the press.

Khera also confirmed that the service will be uplinked from Greater Noida.

But no channel details for videocon d2h in lyngsat.com

Videocon delays DTH foray

Source: The Economic Times

NEW DELHI: Consumer electronics major Videocon has delayed the launch of its Direct-to-home (DTH) venture. The company had earlier said it would start pilot tests in July and launch commercially in August. Videocon’s DTH brand, D2H, would be the sixth player to enter the DTH space.

Videocon Industries director Saurabh Dhoot said, “We haven’t delayed our launch. We would start testing signals before the year end and launch it next year. I can’t reveal the exact date of the launch.” As per industry sources, Videocon would not be in a position to launch its DTH venture commercially before March next year.

The company has announced plans to invest Rs 1,000 crore in the next three year on its DTH business. The company has also said that it would offer its product at competitive prices and would leverage its consumer durable customer base to grab the initial numbers.

According to industry sources, there could be atleast one additional company who has applied for DTH license and has also talked to technology partners. India would be the first country in the world to have 6-7 DTH players and industry experts believe it would be a formidable task for them to exist and maintain the subscriber numbers.

News Corp owned NDS Group chairman & CEO Abe Peled who was recently on an India visit had said, “If you ask me, it is difficult for seven DTH companies to coexist.” NDS provides digital cable and DTH companies with pay television technology.

The entry of R-ADAG’s Big TV and Airtel digital television triggered a price war which has adversely impacted the profitability of DTH players. Dish TV is now looking at increasing its prices. Industry experts believe consumers attracted to players with low prices have zero loyalty factor and therefore players could loose such subscribers after they end their promotional offers.

Videocon eyes 1.5 mln subscribers for DTH - official

Reuters India

Mon Jun 8, 2009 3:27pm IST

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Videocon Industries Ltd is targetting 1.5 million subscribers for its direct-to-home (DTH) service, riding on its large network of consumer appliance dealers, its top official said.

The company has developed new liquid crystalline design televisions that can directly receive DTH signals and is aiming for a June 20 launch, Chairman Venugopal Dhoot told television channel NDTV Profit on Monday.

"No set-top box is required," Dhoot said. "We are also giving this (technology) through different models."

"We have already invested around 500-600 crores (5-6 billion rupees) and further investments will be made as required," he added.

The electronics and appliance maker also plans to rope in foreign investors once the service acquires a sizeable customer base, he said.

Videocon will be entering a market that already has large competitors including Sun Direct, Tata Sky, Dish TV, majority owned by Zee Entertainment Enterprises, and Reliance Communications Ltd's BIG TV.
