Htc Touch Hd Unboxed

Recommended Posts

How does HTC do it? First it releases the first Google Android phone, the T-Mobile G1, and a week later it releases another touchscreen titan, the HTC Touch HD. It’s not out in shops until Thursday, but we’ve just got our hands on it two days early. Fancy some exclusive shots and first impressions? Read on!

We’re pretty impressed by the box - it’s not as slim as the iPhone’s sure, but have you ever seen a piece of cardboard rock the Gothic look quite like this? Opening it up, we’ve got the money shot: the massive, 3.8 inch touchscreen Touch HD itself. It’s immense. Anything else after that is going to be a slight anti-climax, but a charger and USB cord are still essential out of the box - we don’t like those clunky earphones though.

Ignore the European power cable - a UK one will be included, and while it’s missing from this preview handset, Orange assures us there’ll be an 8GB SDHC card to pop in and power up your media library. But enough talk: see for yourself in the gallery below. And if you want to know how the HTC Touch HD measures up to the latest touchscreen smartphones, check out our Stat Clash and see.

cdma version ?

Someone claiming to work in an HTC "repair/order/design" facility apparently decided to reveal quite a bit of information about some issues and development that the company is working on. The original PPCGeeks thread is now closed but WMExperts have a summary of some 50 pages of posts!

One interesting revelation is that HTC is considering bringing a CDMA-variant of the HTC Touch HD to the U.S.. A prototype was built using parts from a CDMA HTC Diamond and re-flashing the ROM.

Essentially, a new ROM was needed to address a number of issues, including both camera and GPS lags, and a control PAD malfunction. Other topics include an upcoming ROM update for the Sprint Diamond, confirmation that Verizon will offer a crippled HTC Touch Pro (slower processor and less memory), and more.
