srk006 21 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 Hi all, Just noticed that the fan inside the SMPS unit of my assembled PC is not working. I removed the SMPS, opened it cleaned all dust etc. and applied some oil and put it back. The fan turned for 10-15 seconds and again stopped. Again tried the same thing. This time not working. What to do now? Any one had this problem and solved?

Honest 836 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 My dear SRK, it seems that your SMPS is faulty. As repairing the SMPS is not suggested at all so go for a new SMPS. Otherwise your system could be at risk. Regards.
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 Always go for a good SMPS, personal experience; previously I was using smps that came built in with cabinet (total cost Rs. 1000/- to 1500/-) but it gave lots of trouble like restarting on slight voltage fluctuation even after being on an 600VA APC UPS; First I thought it was UPS fault; then on a friends recommendation, I recently changed only my SMPS to COOLER MASTER (380W Rs. 1700/-, 460W Rs. 2400/-). I went for 460W one because it came with an additional cable for attaching a dedicated Graphic Card; And VOILA, all problems of restarting etc. just vanished; and I tell u friends its worth investing that additional 2K on your system, total peace of mind (also COOLER MASTER cabinets also start from 1700/- onwards) SO ALWAYS GO FOR GOOD QUALITY BRANDED POWER SUPPLY AND CABINET; and you feel you are using a high end Dell or IBM even on your assembled computer... srk006 21 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) Any sugestions for a good SMPS? Does a new cabinet come with SMPS? If yes suggest me a good cabinet(Micro-ATX) too. If possible, approx. price also. I want to change my 6 year old cabinet. @dkaile Thanks for the suggestion. Any recommendation on cabinet? dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) I think we posted together, pls read my above post, go only for Cooler Master.... you wont regret it... I saw one of their high end cabinets (rs. 8000/-) it weighed 25KG's... total gamers delight... otherwise their normal cabinets (without smps) starts at 1700/- and also 360W smps (enough for a normal system without additional graphic card) also starts at 1700/- Edited November 17, 2008 by dkaile
srk006 21 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 I have a separate graphics card.. So I guess I'll go for the 400W SMPS. CoolerMaster site is not giving price details of their products. Any site having prices for the same?
Mufaddal 678 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 I had problem with my iball smps 2 yrs back .....wanted to buy a new one but rather went for repairing it....it sbeen two yrs since no probs whasoever......my comp is on most of the times ( around 12-14hrs a day)
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 Here's the Rs. 1700/- cabinet I went for http://www.coolermaster.com/products/produ...=17&id=2599 and does your graphic card use a separate power cable, if not or if it is powered directly by the motherboard, then the 380W will serve your purpose. 460W is useful only if you have a high end graphic card that requires a separate power cable..... srk006 21 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 No.. There is no separate power cable from the Graphics card. Its the XFX 8400GS.
dkaile 1,051 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) Then the 360W (sorry it was not 380W) will serve your purpose and even the latest model now available comes with a PCI-Express power cable (didnt come in the one I had seen earlier) - http://www.coolermaster.com/products/produ...=22&id=5445 but to be on the safe side and to make it future proof, you can spend a few extra bucks and go for the 460W one - http://www.coolermaster.com/products/produ...=22&id=5483 Edited November 17, 2008 by dkaile
Honest 836 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 My dear SRK, the advice of Dhiraj brother is really good. You can opt for the same if your budget allows. Else you can go for IBALL SMPS. You will get IBALL SMPS 400W @ Rs.475/- approximately. I'm using IBALL SMPS from the last 3 years without any problems. Regards.
srk006 21 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 Thanks for the help dkaile. Will call the retailer to see if coolermaster is available in stock @Honest Me and my friends have very bad experience with iball products like ups and headphones. So iball will be my last choice. Honest 836 Report post Posted November 17, 2008 ^^^ My dear friend, then Cooler Master will be the best for you. No other SMPS could beat this product. One of my friend owns a CYBER CAFE and he has purposely installed the Cooler Master SMPS in all his systems. As you know the systems at Cafes used to run throughout the day continuously. You should go for it. Regards.
