city02 63 Report post Posted September 8, 2004 RIM Prepaid has a newfound customer segment in the form of the fishing community of Kerala, and the Corporate Sales Team of Kerala is aggressively networking to get the potential customers in this community hooked to. As also reported earlier the fishermen use mobile phones to interact with their bosses and brokers who are waiting to hear about the day's catch. This helps them maximize their returns. In this regard, Nidhin D Raj of the Corporate Sales Team, Kerala has created a landmark of sorts by selling 100 RIM Prepaid connections to the fishermen, in a span of less than a month during August, with the help of various Fishing Co-operative Societies. Nidhin has been extensively making demos and goes out to the sea on fishing boats for coverage checks. He has taken upon the end-to-end responsibility for the product and its service related aspects. “Since our coverage is available nearly 15-20 kilometers into the sea, the fishermen are able to take decisions even before they reach the shore,” says Nidhin. He is now trying to operate on a larger scale by approaching the apex body of the Fishing Societies SIFFS (South India Federation for Fishermen Societies), operating in Thiruvananthapuram District. As a result of his diligent and committed efforts, Nidhin is popularly known as 'Moopam', a title usually given to a village elder or leader, in some of the coastal communities of Thiruvananthapuram.
