joverdorf 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2004 Hi guys, I have tried and tried to install R-Connect on my windows xp machine using the Reliance software. I'm using an LG 2030 phone and a data cable made by an outfit called HK 7000 (maybe that's the name of the cable) that I can't locate thru a web search. I followed the instructions given to a user with a similar problem (Ranjan2001) without success. Here's my theory: both Ranjan and I downloaded the drivers from Reliance, even though we're using third-party cables that automatically charge the phone while it's connected to the laptop. Maybe I need to get different drivers from the cable maker? (Note: the guy who passed the cable on to me gave me a blank CD by mistake, then left India). This is a real mystery, so please don't go thru all the rubbish about uninstalling and reinstalling etc. I tried the troubleshooting instructions before bothering to register for this site etc. Also, an open question: How come you can always find somebody with similar problems in discussion forums like this one, but it's such a b**ch to find somebody with a solution? rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted September 13, 2004 i dont think the CABLE is the problem....and,the s/f from reliance mostly works with ANY make of cable...not jus with the "official /branded" cable... maybe u could start with a lil bit more detail on when/which step of the installation fails....what exactly did u "troubleshoot" ? we could really use some details here... Re-check the basics, maybe - did u get the specific driver for ur phone model AND for ur type of cnxn ? usb or COM port - how do u connect ? if its a laptop, i reckon its gonna be usb... Bottomline is, with such lil info from u, U R GONNA GET MSGS TO "go thru all the rubbish about uninstalling and reinstalling etc"..... post back with more details and maybe somethin will turn up
Ashokjp 15 Report post Posted September 13, 2004 Mostly the prob lies under the software part only.. 80% of us use local cables only bcz they are cheap and affordable... They dont need special drivers, Use the ones of Reliance
Code 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2004 Hi joverdorf Welcome to the forums. What I would suggest U is to search for third party drivers(provided U exhausted all options with the reliance driver which AFAIK works with most 3rd party cables) on the net and try them one by one preferably (if possibly) on win9x as win 2k/XP may have persistent problems after installing one incompatible driver. joverdorf 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2004 (edited) Sorry for the lack of details, guys. OK, here's what I did: (1) I discovered my buddy gave me a blank install CD (2) I went to reliance web site and downloaded the drivers for XP/LG2030 (3) I followed installation instructions (4) I ignored XP warnings about unsigned driver etc (5) Modem installed but wasn't recognized and I got an error message to that effect. (something like it wasn't installed properly and may not work, which it didn't) (6) I looked at the troubleshooting options, which essentially told me to uninstall and try again, which I have done repeatedly. Note: My specific problem isn't covered by the troubleshooter, though I did run into some of those problems as well on my retries. Specific errors: (1) It seems to have trouble installing the hardware, as when it detects the LG USB modem and asks me for the driver, it won't find the driver automatically and tells me that the directory with the driver has "no information about your device." (2) In the device manager, there is no converter device listed under USB devices (3) A new problem is that once the installation failed, my built-in modem for landline use also won't work, and my Com ports are no longer listed on device manager hope you can help! Jason For the steps I have already tried, please see the following discussion forum on this site Lg 2030 Usb Data Cable Cannot Install As Modem ranjan2001 28 283 16th July 2004 - 12:28 PM Last Post by: ranjan2001 I tried all the stuff that people advised Ranjan to try, without success. ranjan2001 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2004 So finally I got to know of this post via Seetha Private Message. I can tell u one thing that the original cable does not charge the phone at all, where as the 3rd party used to do that, & I feel that might be one of the issue that USB port getting locked due to incompatibility, thus the com ports do disappear from device manager. I was through hell with all that problem, but at RS 1674/- my mind is at peace at least for sure. Ranjan
