raccoon 53 Report post Posted September 13, 2004 I guess its for static which builds up there. I wouldn't cut it if I were you. On the other hand maybe remove it temporarily and see how it affects static...

Code 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2004 Indeed it removes the static electricity which builds upon it's surface preventing nasty shocks on touching it. Grounding is also said to reduce ionizing radiations emanating from the monitor(dunno how far it's really effective to that end though).

Vishal Gupta 4 Report post Posted September 14, 2004 So what should i do for grounding this wire?
raccoon 53 Report post Posted September 14, 2004 Well Vishal, Code has almost answered your question to me before I could ...I did mean 'static electricity' when i said 'static'. I wouldn't recommend that you connect the wire to your comp cabinet, even though it may be properly grounded. Comp hardware is very sensistive to static! Besides, are you really sure that your cabinet is properly grounded? Dont just assume that it is! In fact, you should test you wiring once a while for that. Its quite easy ...and well worth the trouble. Perhaps the best way to ground that wire would be to connect it directly to the earthing in your wall socket. If thats difficult, perhaps you could connect it to a large metal object (like furniture, etc)...
