Gsm Operators Add 9.3 Mn Users In Feb

Recommended Posts

Slowdown failed to hit rising mobile usage as Indian GSM operators added a record 9.1 milliom subscribers in February, taking total users to 277.1 million, thus, maintaining rapid expansion in the world's fastest-growing wireless market.

Bharti Airtel Ltd, India's top mobile operator, led the signings, adding 2.73 million subscribers in February to take its mobile customer base to 91 million. Vodafone Essar Ltd, controlled by Britain's Vodafone, added 2.5 million users in the month, to take its subscriber base to 65 million, data from the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) showed.

State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd added 1.5 million users in February taking its total to 44 million. Idea Cellular gained 1.5 subscribers as well, and now has 41 million users.

There are five other companies that offer GSM services, including Reliance Communications Ltd, which has majority of its subscribers on the rival CDMA network, and announces its subscriber additions separately.

India's mobile market is booming, thanks to call rates as low as one US cent a minute, the availability of cheap handsets and expansion of networks to smaller towns and rural areas.

Nothing is booming its just they throwing away free sim cards and people are buying it.

and for new entrants government have to show scope in telecoms.

just look around and see how many serious friends or famly really bought GSM connection on intention of using it.

india being a most competitive market only quantity matters here. nothing else.

All number games. More than 50% connections probably are temporary purchase where they buy make calls as per promo scheme.

I know people who has one permanent incoming phone and 3-4 ever changing out going handsets.

Surely tele density is increasing, but not as much as shown on paper.

wait for end of 3month period from rcom, then real game start whether rcom is adding 5mn per month or will be the operator which add just 1mn/month in GSM space. atleast idea can add 1.5mn per month.

All these figures are dubious... There should be a way to assess the ACTUAL present users of any operator.... not the ones who activate the phone for 1-2 months and just dump the sim.... is there any site/way of knowing that?

After certain time period the no is Deactivated and given to other customer

So the figures are very much correct, just a few customers who has recently left the service gets reported

My last airtel no i left a year back, n now it is alloted to some1 else...

But even that person who has been allotted a previous no. is seen as a new connection and added to the new connections figures... they dont deduct the no. that so and so many have left our network...
