Nimbuz 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2009 Hi, I'm looking to purchase the Netconnect Broadband+ account really soon. The device I'm looking at is Huawei 168c. I see the official site provides drivers for Mac OS X, but will I be able to call/sms using the device from my mac? Can someone please confirm? The device I'm talking about is the new white Huawei 168c. Thanks in advance.
Arun 795 Report post Posted March 13, 2009 It may work on Mac as it is mentioned there, but calls and SMS would not be possible for now as it requires a "3G license" for Reliance which is no where in sight now. Moreover Reliance seems to be preferring the GSM route for 3G and it is not sure whether they would be interested in a 3G license at all for CDMA especially since they are able to offer EVDO with their "ISP license" already. Internet will definitely work, but I don't want to keep windows running to make/receive calls. sheesh! :-(
Arun 795 Report post Posted March 13, 2009 I'm not sure what you meant but voice calls and SMS will not work with the EVDO service irrespective of the OS that you are using.

Are you sure? cause I was able to make calls using my USB modem that gave crappy 40kbps speed.
Arun 795 Report post Posted March 13, 2009 Yes, that is not EVDO, its just CDMA 1x. For voice calls over EVDO, the operator needs a 3G license.
ACS 130 Report post Posted April 6, 2009 ^^^^ I was wondering why then it had a headphone like jack. A closer look & it looks nothing like ive seen ever before.. what is it then ?
Arun 795 Report post Posted April 8, 2009 Probably to be used incase they get a 3G license for CDMA when its auctioned? I do not see it in ZTE modem, is it there in Huawei modem?

ACS 130 Report post Posted April 8, 2009 That is external anteena jack.. Not headphone jack Its surprising that they have provided an 'external antenna jack', but its a good thing. Although ppl are paying 700-800 more for this HSD compared to a normal 1x DC, they're expecting the moon as far as speeds are concerned.. & surprisingly this time, RComm is living up to our expectations with this product. This external antenna should help in areas with weak signals.. but how to source it ? Probably to be used incase they get a 3G license for CDMA when its auctioned? I do not see it in ZTE modem, is it there in Huawei modem? As you mentioned there's no jack in ZTE, Huawei is also clarified, then how will the same data card get converted to Voice/Data after 3G license ? I doubt it.. they are probably not even allowed to sell voice enabled devices !

I don't think they would go for 3G license for CDMA at all.
