Wimax 384kbps Plan, What Is The Actual Speed

Recommended Posts

hi,

I am Noble Jose, from Bangalore.

I am on TATA WiMax 384kbps infinity, What will be the ideal download speed? I hv checked with so many speed tests, but all of them giving different results, I don't know why? My speed test results given below, Please help me to find the correct result.

http://www.amitbhawani.com/tools/bandwidth-meter - 190.40kbps

http://www.speedtest.net/ - 332kbps down and 283kbps up with NY server.

http://www.auditmypc.com/broadband-speed-test.asp - 165kbps down 344 up

http://www.intel.com/cd/personal/computing.../eng/383655.htm - 510kbps !!

http://www.broadband.co.uk/broadband-speed-test.jsp - 176Kbps down 213Kbps up.

http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?flash=1 - 173Kbps down and 306kbps up, Latency 428ms with NY

And for a single file download from download.com or any other major site, is 20-22 KBps, technically I should get 46-48KB/sec on a 384kbps plan right? Should I raise a complaint to TATA about the speed?

I hv checked my signal strength, and it is constant on 24-25, which is i think good enough to get a decent speed. The nearest tower is just about 30 meters from my house, no obstructions in between, should i expect better signal strength?

Overall I am happy abt TATA service, because i got connection in 2 days! and no disconnect till now. I need to figure out the speed promised is correct or not.

Thanks for your time :)

Speed wasn't any issue when I used TATA Indicom WiMAX in Bangalore earlier, it was just the disconnections that I had a problem with. Can you try downloading a file using a download manager like FlashGet using 10 threads/connections? Try the test file: http://www.softlayer.com/downloads/test.zip

Use a download meter like DU Meter to check the speed as well. With that being said, the latency of wimax connection is always a problem than a wireline connection which will result in the speed varying.
