city02 63 Report post Posted September 21, 2004 To satisfy a polyglot nation, Reliance Energy launched the Multilingual Power Bill, the first of its kind in the country on September 16, 2004 in Mumbai.Initially, the power bill will be offered in four mainstream languages like Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and English. All power bills post September 9, 2004 will carry a language option coupon on the payment slip at the back of the bill. Customers who have not exercised their choice of language will receive their electricity bills in English as a default language. This endeavor of offering bills in the language of choice of the customer has involved over six months of intensive research, as there are too many variables. Reliance Energy has taken planned measures to surmount logistical hurdles, while successfully integrating the choice of language for well over 22 lakh customers. Customers can communicate their language preference by filling in the language choice form available at the Customer Care desks and Cash Collection Centres of Reliance Energy Limited. They can also drop the form at any one of the 1074 bill drop boxes located across Mumbai alone or specify their choice at REL's Powerhelp by dialing 30303030. Customers can also visit the REL website (www.rel.co.in) to make use of this facility. This move by REL will usher in the concept of 'utility marketing' in India. Through its customer care initiatives, REL is sending out a message to the world that services provided by utilities cannot be obligatory anymore, as going forward, competitive service providers will have to differentiate their services to have a competitive edge. To ensure excellence in customer care, REL has already introduced various customer friendly initiatives such as launch of double-sided, variable colour, new look bill, installation of drop boxes at multiple locations and keeping its bill collection centers open on Sundays and other public holidays.
