ACS 130 Report post Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) Hi Guys.. Few problems are noted during installation: Plz help. 1) Karpersky detects a Trojan during the driver installation process of a brand new Huawei 168C USB HSD ! 2) In certain small notebooks, the fields for User ID / Password have disappeared & also Speed/Download details don't come. Similar issues with Samsung & Acer Notebooks. 3) With 'Thinkpad' laptops (tried in 3 diff ones IBM/Lenovo): *On pressing connect, redial appears. *System requires re-start as the Comp keeps hanging. 4) On pressing the 'activate' button - In some machines the IVR comes, in some it doesn't ! 5) Looking back at the first option.. do u think this memory (pre-loaded drivers) option can be a problem while plugging/unplugging from diff PCs/Laptops ? i.e. Chance of infection without putting an SD Card in the provided slot ? Arun 795 Report post Posted April 6, 2009 1) I have ZTE modem but the dialer should have almost same thing as Huawei. I have Kaspersky on Vista and did not get any alert during installation. 2) I have seen that happen when the dialer loads automatically when you insert the data card. Close it and run the dialer shortcut which should show the saved username/password. 3) Not sure as I haven't seen something like that 4) It is a one time procedure which needs to be done after your CAF is uploaded. You will not hear any dial tone nor any other progress messages, but would get disconnected once it gets activated which may take 1 - 2 minutes. 5) Not sure as I have ZTE data card
Hellangelo 2 Report post Posted April 8, 2009 I have installed the Huawei ec168c USB modem on almost all the machines I have, including a Thinkpad T Series Laptop. I did not face any problem of any sort, moreso after all the reliance process of verification and stuff, my connection also got activiated. Only one question, What is the "Huawei Mobile Connect - 3G GPS Interface" driver, can this modem be used as a GPS device??
ACS 130 Report post Posted April 8, 2009 Only one question, What is the "Huawei Mobile Connect - 3G GPS Interface" driver, can this modem be used as a GPS device?? Probably another joke after the 'Unlimited Tariff' option in HSD cards. But seriously, Arun is it GPS compatible too? And thanks Arun.. Activate button really helps and certain start-up/connection errors have reduced.

gaganpodar 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 Hi. I have recently bought the Reliance EC168C device. It worked brilliantly. I was using it on my Dell XPSM1330 with Vista Home premium. I always faced problem that after i resume by PC from hibernation, the device was never detected by the software. Although it showed in the Device manager under Modems. Three days back, while surfing the net. The software said the Device is disconnected and not found. It is now not showing under Modems. I have un-installed and re-installed it, still its not working. I had installed it on my desktop with Vista. It is not detecting in that also. Only Virtual CD is shown with the installer. The additional Removable Disk is also not shown nor it is shown under modems. I just installed it on Win 2003 server. it installed and all the devices are shown and i am able to connect also. I also installed on another PC with Vista. Same problem. devices are not shown, only the Virtual CD is shown. I think there is some problem with device software for Vista. If you guys have any solution do let me know.
syg 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 I have the same problem. Looks like the Huawei 168c has a trojan embedded in one of the exe files that are part of the installation. ResetDevice.exe has the trojan Generic16.BXSH - this was detected by AVG on my machine. This will lead to a compromised machine, excessive bandwidth usage (your machine may be a staging post for illegal file swapping). My machine would freeze frequently every time I used the Huawei 168c on my earlier machine, till I stopped using it completely. I've now used it today on another machine and the trojan was detected.
