The pace of monthly additions on the dominant mobile platform picked up from 8.3 million added in May, but was still slower than April's 8.97 million and March's 10.8 million. savramesh 37 Report post Posted July 14, 2009 Telecom user base touches 429.7 million Source NEW DELHI: India's total telecom subscriber base touched 429.72 million for the quarter ending March taking the teledensity up to 36.98 the Trai said on Monday. This is against 384.79 million for the quarter ending December 2008, a 11.68% increase. Wireless subscribers increased to 391.76 million (346.89 million) while wireline subscribers increased to 37.96 million (37.90 million). Rural wireline subscribers decreased by 0.93% to 10.58 million (10.68 million) while in contrast, rural wireless subscribers grew 17.77% to 109.71 million (93.15 million). The number of Public Call Offices (PCOs) also increased by 3.68% to 6.20 million (5.98 million). In the GSM segment, the all India blended ARPU per month decreased 6.82% from Rs 220 in December 2008 to Rs 205 in March 2009. ARPU for postpaid services declined 2.8% to Rs 543 (Rs 559) and 6% for prepaid services to Rs 181 (Rs 192). For CDMA, the all India monthly blended ARPU dropped to Rs 99 (Rs 111). The huge difference between postpaid and prepaid ARPU noticed in the last quarter remains valid for the current quarter as well in the CDMA market. Postpaid ARPU was 5 times that of prepaid ARPU, which could be attributed to declining importance of processing fee on recharge coupon/voucher purchased by prepaid subscribers. Internet wireline subscribers grew 5.30% to 13.54 million (12.85 million) while broadband subscribers (with a download speed of 256 Kbps or more) grew 12.68% to 6.22 million. savramesh 37 Report post Posted July 14, 2009 India's Rural Mobile Subscribers Rise Techtree News Staff, Jul 14, 2009 1613 hrs IST Increase 18 percent over last year With the urban mobile market nearly saturated, India is looking towards its villages and towns to propel the growth of this sector and it indeed is growing. According to the latest numbers from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the number of rural mobile subscribers has surged past the 100 million mark and now stands at a staggering 109.7 million. This data is for the end of the first quarter of 2009. This also translates into a growth of 18 percent over the last quarter of 2008. While the overall subscriber base in the country stands at 391.76 million, the rural growth was in the earlier stages slow as compared with the urban centres. In fact, even now, with 282 million subscribers, urban centres command a 72 percent of all mobile users in the country. What we are gradually seeing now is a change that is bringing wireless mobility to the interiors of the country. Mobile companies, both manufactures and operators, seem to have noticed the growing power of India s rural centers and are now concentrating on this hitherto overlooked segment, which presents these companies with an untapped, pristine market at their disposal. Nokia, for example, recently launched its Life Tools directed at the rural population in the country with value added services tailor made for the rural consumer. Other companies too have come up with value added services to boost revenue and tap this huge market.

situ1962 21 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 I think all service providers are declaring inflated subscriber base.perhaps they count all the connections sold, rather than the number of active connections. I am telling this because 2 years back I stopped using my prepaid number and it's still vacant and hasn't been allotted to anybody.that means the nnumber is still associated with my name can anybody clarify my doubt in this matter? savramesh 37 Report post Posted August 10, 2009 (edited) TN has 4 crore mobile subscribers, second among states after Maharashtra Source CHENNAI: In obvious signs of growing teledensity in Tamil Nadu and the involvement of technology in everyday life, every second person in the state now owns a mobile phone connection and about 65% of the population has a telephone connection. As per data available with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Tamil Nadu had more than four crore mobile subscribers by June this year. As of June 2009, the Tamil Nadu circle (which excludes Chennai) had 3.03 crore mobile subscribers while Chennai circle had 96.51 lakh subscribers. The number of landline phones in Tamil Nadu circle stood at 22.24 lakh, falling from 22.36 lakh in May 2009, while for the Chennai circle, the number was 14.10 lakh in June 2009. This takes the total number of phone connections in the state to about 4.36 crore, while the state's projected population at the end of 2009 is 6.65 crore. What is interesting is the fact that the two new entrants, MTS and Idea Cellular, have managed to add 1,21,985 subscribers within a single month between May 2009 and June 2009 in both the circles. Already, Chennai has the highest teledensity in the country at 131% (131 connections for every 100 persons). While MTS added 63,525 customers during the one-month period, Idea which launched operations in May added 58,460 customers. Tamil Nadu, including Chennai circle, stands at the number two position among states in terms of number of mobile phone subscribers at four crore. Maharashtra (including Mumbai circle) has 5.3 crore subscribers, while Andhra Pradesh has 3.3 crore subscribers. What could explain this high number of subscribers in the state is that many people have multiple phone connections. "In a city like Chennai, people use two numbers. They have dual SIM cards for official and personal use. So that could explain such large numbers vis-a-vis the population," M Srinivas, senior vice president- Tamil Nadu and Chennai, Idea Cellular, told The Times of India. Srinivasa Rao Saripalli, CEO- TN and Kerala, MTS also agrees with the view. "If you count absolute teledensity, there could be multiple connections in a household. But then, people here are more receptive to new products. They are looking at better network coverage, tariffs and quality of service." What's more, industry experts see the upward trend continuing for a while. "There are still towns and areas that have not yet been penetrated. There is still so much potential for mobile services to reach in Tamil Nadu," Srinivas of Idea said. Interestingly, of the eight operators in the stateBSNL, Aircel, Reliance, Airtel, Vodafone, Tata Teleservices, MTS and Idea Cellular, only Tata Teleservices lost subscribers between May and June. While it lost 5,454 subscribers in the Chennai circle, 11,753 customers went out of its network in the Tamil Nadu circle. savramesh 37 Report post Posted August 22, 2009 479 Million Telecom Subscribers in India Source According to the latest Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) figures (Warning: PDF link), India has increased its telecom subscriber base from 464.82 million in June to 479.07 million by the end of July. Posting unprecedented growth, the teledensity in the country has also reached 41.08 percent. Out of the 479 million-subscriber base, wireless subscribers consisted of 441.66 million users. This was a growth of 3.36 percent over the figure of 427.28 million a month ago. The teledensity too was below the 40 percent mark back then, standing at 37.87 percent. As expected, the figures for the wired sector were not at all with the subscriber base seeing a decline from 37.54 million users in June to 37.41 million in July. The saving grace is that fact that only the State Run operators were losing customers. Private players in the fixed line telephony sector have managed to increase their base. The figures also had data for the broadband subscriber base. This sector has seen an increase in the subscriber base from 6.62 million in June, to 6.8 million in July, registering a growth of 2.7 percent.

vvinayakpai 26 Report post Posted September 21, 2009 (edited) Tata Teleservices price pitch does the trick, operator notches up over 3.4 mn new additions in August TT Correspondent | New Delhi | 21 Sep 2009 Indian consumers inclination towards pricing mix comes out in the open again as Tata DoCoMo is seen to have registered the maximum number of new mobile subscriber additions in the month of August 2009. The service provider has managed to clock more than 3.4 million new mobile subscribers as of August 31, 2009. Its total wireless subscriber base now stands at 42.79 million. Tata Teleservices additions clearly outnumber market leader Bharti Airtels figure of 2.8 million new additions for August. In fact the figure of more than 3 million is itself very high since normally the highest subscriber addition figures hover around the 2.5-2.8 million mark. Tata Teleservices had managed to record 2.2 million new additions in July month. This is fantastic news for us and a validation of all the efforts that have been put into making our network and services the best in the industry, Mr Anil Sardana, Managing Director of Tata Teleservices Limited, said. We thank each one of our new and existing subscribers for showering so much love, affection and trust in us. This has far exceeded our expectations and enthuses us to provide the best telecom experience to our customersin keeping with our larger objective of achieving customer affection and delight, he added. The company is playing aggressively on the price front. It has launched its GSM services under the Tata DoCoMo brand on a per second pricing pulse model as opposed to competing offers which are generally priced on per minute basis. On the CDMA front, the company has launched a flat rate of Re.1 irrespective of the duration of the call. Vodafone witnessed 2.19 million additions while Reliance Communications is seen lagging with only 1.6 million additions. The figures available with TelecomTiger will be released soon by the relevant trade associations. Please click on the Source link to view the table. I am unable to upload the table on this post.
