Recommended Posts

Hi

I am trying to connect to the net with a Palm (Sony Clie SK33 running Palm OS4) and a Samsung SCH N191 phone. I 've bought the data connection kit but it does not have drivers for Palm OS. Can anybody help?

Hello Freddy,

Welcome to rimweb.

About your problem, Can we have a few more details ?

Like what data kit are you using ? Is it a branded one acquired from reliance ?

What port on your PDA do you use to connect the data cable ?

Also Im not sure whether reliance supports connecting to internet through their network as of yet.

If they did, they would have drivers for it at their site.

Hi

I'm using a Samsung Data Cable bought from WebWorld. It works fine with a PC but when I connect the USB cable of my PDA to the USB of the data cable using a "Male-Female USB Gender Changer", they fail to talk to each other. From what I cld get from the various forums, you don't need any drivers to connect ur Palm to the net.

I presume, I need a "null modem adapter" instead of a gender changer to get the connection made. I'll try it during the weekend and will let you know. I'll try using a USB infrared adapter too since my PDA has infrared.

I want to know if we can attach an external USB Infrared adapter to the Data Cable USB.

freddy, i think that it's possible,

cauz from what i know it's prolly possible to Connect palm devices running WIN-CE to the phone..

try this,

add a std. 28800 bps modem (driver) and then config it to use the com port associated with the phone.

also, u can only access the net by username->(ur ph no.w/o std 0)

password-><same>

phone no.->#777

Hi,

Any idea how does the Reliance Kyocera handset works and connects directly to Inet? I had a Null Moden built locally and tried connecting the FWP to the Palm using a serial cable. But the question is what sort of Network and Connection settings are required. For the PC there are some init strings. What I feel is that we will need some modem driver preferably a CDMA one. There are many such drivers but did not find any CDMA one.

Any further luck please let me know.

I think we need a small tutorial here on Palm OS 5 PDA

(mostly it is same for OS 4 I guess).

So that we go in a proper direction to try it get working:

Requirements:

------------

1.Palm OS 5 PDA.

2.Cradle/Cable that comes with the Palm PDA.

3.USB Male<->Female Gender Changer.

4.RIM Phone/FWP.

5.USB Data Cable for RIM Phone/FWP.

How to do it:

------------

1.Goto Prefs:

Select Connection(See Snapshot1).

Create a New Connecion (RIM in Snap shot).

2.Edit the Properties as ShownSee Snapshot 2).

a.Connect to -> Modem.

b. Via Cradl/Cable

c.Dialing ->Touch Tone.

d.Volume -> Medium.

3.Set the Details for the connection(See Snapshot 3)

Details:

Speed -> 115,200 bps.

Flow Control -> Automatic.

Close the app.

4.Goto Prefs again:

Select Network(See Snapshot 4):

Create a New Connection(Named here RIM Internet).

a.Service RIM Internet.

b.User Name: 093xxxxxxxx

c.Password: 093xxxxxxxx

d.Phone: #777

e. Select Done.

5.Connect the phone thru USB Cable.

a.Connect the data cable to RIM phone.

b.Connect the USB Port End to a USB Male<->Female Gender Changer.

c.Connect the Palm USB cable between the Palmop & the Gender Changer.

6.Now open your Web Browser (Palm Web Pro here)

as in (See Snapshot 5).

1.Select the Network Service: RIM Interenet (U created Above).

2.Dial the Connection.

Why doesn't it work???

----------------------

*I tested it with LG 5230 with original LG Cable.

*We don't know the exact reason.

*What happens is when U try to connect

there is not even a blink of the light on the cable

(I used original LG cable which indicates Tx & Rx events by

Red & Green Lights respectively).

*Even Sending AT Commands won't reach the phone.

*The above works well with a Normal USB modem which means that

RIM phone+cable doesn't behave like a standard USB modem.

It requires the software drivers on windows to emulate the same.

*Likely solution is having a cable ciruitry that makes it behave

like a ordinary USB modem without requiring any drivers.

*Any one with the newer LG FWP which comes with a Direct USB port

can see if the above works with that. Most likley it should work.

Any one ?????????????

24002[/snapback]

Kyocera handset has both the network and Paom OS in a single platform. So no Cable issues involved.
