savramesh 37 Report post Posted May 26, 2009 TV Next May 26th, 2009 Multi Screen Media (formerly known as Sony Entertainment Television) is planning to launch a dedicated sports television channel. N P Singh ,COO, Multi Screen Media in an interview to the Times of India has disclosed his plans to start a sports tv channel. Multi Screen Media owns IPL rights, New Zealand Cricket series and Football Association Challenge Cup rights which substantiate its desire to start a sports channel. Besides IPL and other telecast rights another reason which compels MSM to start a sports channel are its competitors who already own sports channels. Star television owns Star Sports, ESPN Star Sports and Zee owns Zee Sports. Till now MSM has been airing IPL and other sports coverage on SET Max . SET Max is the home of Indian Premier League which is the history making cricket event in the world. The channel grabbed highest ratings in the history of Indian TV channels and attracted a wide set of viewers from all age groups. Set Max also provides its viewers a mix of Hindi Movies and cricket. It is the only channel in India that has successfully run with a dual positioning where in it brings two of the greatest passions of India along with the spice of entertaining Extraaa Shots and Extraaa Innings. Among Hindi movie channels it competes mainly with Zee Cinema and STAR Gold in India. SET Max has been known for its biggest blockbusters and an extensive library of Super Hit Hindi Movies. Extraaa Shots have redefined the experience of watching Hindi Movies by serving the most exciting and exclusive trivia about the movies to add an extraaa fun. So watching a movie on SET Max also means going behind the screens and knowing the spicy tit-bits that contributed to the making of the blockbusters. MSM faces stiff competition from other players in the market, especially STAR Plus, Zee TV and Colors. That is why the channel is all set for a revamp of the channel. The channel will be airing daily soaps which will have concepts never seen before on television. To give space for the new shows all the daily soaps is going off-air, also the reality shows. It is only the two long-running weekend programmes Boogie Woogie and C.I.D. that has survived as they give good ratings. The revamp took place on May 25, 2009.
