savramesh 37 Report post Posted May 29, 2009 Techtree News Staff, May 28, 2009 1809 hrs IST Earlier this week, Opera released its newest State of the Mobile Web report -- a periodic report that gives information on the top global trends affecting the mobile web. The report provides insightful statistics on the reach of Opera Mini, which has now become the undisputed leader in the Mobile Browser segment. Some of the statistics are mind boggling like the following things noted in the global trends. - In April 2009, Opera Mini had over 23.4 million users, up more than 140 percent as compared with April 2008. - Opera Mini users viewed nearly 8.7 billion pages in April 2009. Since April 2008, page views have increased 249 percent. - Last month, Opera Mini users generated more than 151 million MB of data for operators worldwide. Data in Opera Mini is compressed up to 90 percent. If this data were uncompressed, Opera Mini users would have viewed up to 1.4 PB of data in April. Over the previous year, data traffic is up 295 percent. - Opera Mini usage in Nigeria continues to surge, pushing past Poland and taking the #9 spot. India too features in the list, with the country showcasing a huge 169.3 percent unique-user growth since April 2008. Opera has also listed the top sites accessed from Opera Mini in India, in the report with Google, Orkut and Yahoo taking the first three spots. Gmail comes in at the fourth place. Indian Railways' website http://indianrail.gov.in and YouTube make it back to the list after a six-month hiatus. Another important piece of information we see in the reports is the number of non-smartphone users using Opera Mini to access the full Internet. The top handsets that used Opera Mini in India were the Nokia N70, N73 and the Nokia 3110c. Sony Ericsson W200i and the Ericsson K750i came in at the ninth and tenth positions. They are also the only non-Nokia handsets that managed to find a spot in the list.
