savramesh 37 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Techtree News Staff, Jul 01, 2009 1602 hrs IST Has its eyes set on the mid and low-end segment Motorola, in its latest strategy, seems to be concentrating on the low to mid-range smartphone segment where it is expected to bring out a slew of new devices in the near future. This is quite a change from Motorola's earlier strategy of hitting it with one device, like it had done with the Razr back in 2005. Motorola hasn't really been able to compete with the likes of the Apple iPhone and RIM in the high-end segment, and now seems to have set its eyes on the lower-end segment where it will have the assurance of getting greater margins from sales. The smartphones will also use the Android OS which is again, free. The aim is also to increase the company's dwindling market share that has been on a constant slide over the past year or so. Additionally, in these times of recession, the company thinks it makes sense to concentrate more on the mid and low-end segment that involves lesser capital to develop and manufacture newer products. Motorola expects to increase the number of units shipped by 20% with this strategy. Could this be the turnaround the company desperately needs? We'll know it soon enough!
